Born and brewed in Wisconsin and a) I see a lot of cheese and b) not even we eat 90 pounds a day.
80, tops.
This is like $1000 of cheese
“Jean-Luc Fromage”. That guy would know about cheese, for sure.

Where’s the accent circonflexe?
Did you eat your 90 lbs of cheese today? Gotta do your patriotic duty.
Eat a verification Babybel
I shoved a couple of blocks down my throat during the national anthem. For lunch I microwaved a couple of blocks and added them to my coffee. My remaining blocks I’ll probably have in a smoothie.
Kinda funny how this goes, I’d like to see someone eat that much cheese and hopefully doesn’t die in a day
ITT: people passing off a lot of opinion as fact.
90 lbs a day.
I call bullshit.
It’s an average. That means there’s at least one American out there eating more, possibly far more, than 90 lbs of cheese a day.
Fromage georg out here eating 10,000 lbs of cheese a day, skewing the average
Man I wish I could afford to have 90lbs a cheese of day.
I’d finally experience happiness, both by having immense amounts of cheese, and from dying from eating immense amounts of cheese.
Is this a photo where the cheese wears camouflage or something? I’m trying really hard.
It’s very hard to say this, it really pains me, but… Here it goes… I agree with the French guy.
(I’m Dutch)
Can you imagine how much it would cost if was actually real cheese? That’s like 40% water by volume.
It’s Semtex.
They found it during a raid.Ah makes sense, thanks!
Is that guy who replied really French though… xD holy shit, he looks more French than France. His surname is even fromage.
Ja, maar, Dan heeft Nederland ook wereld beroende kaas, toch?
Ja, flinke export ook, maar smaakt niet zo goed als in Nederland. Niet te vergelijken. Gouda bijvoorbeeld. Lekker in Nederland, plastic in buitenland.
That ain’t nowhere near 90 pounds of cheese
You know what? Unpopular opinion time.
Cheddar is a god-tier cheese and puts European cheese to shame.
It can be made sharp or mild, hard or creamy, white or yellow,. It easily melts in a perfect way. It keeps incredibly well. Pairs well with almost everything. It can be improved by aging or smoking (and holy shit if you have not tried a good smoked cheddar you are missing out on life).
You can take any fancy, high-end cheese and there is some variant of cheddar that can go toe-to-toe with it.
The only reason it’s snubbed as common and low-quality is because it’s cheap and used so ubiquitously. But the reason for that is because, again, cheddar is a god-tier cheese.
And yes, I know cheddar was first created in England, but the US is responsible for industrializing and popularizing it.
Dude, cheddar cheese was popularised by Henry II. The U.S. didn’t even exist then
That industrial polymeriszed milk sold in the US we see over here in England as “American Cheese” is barely considered food stuff let alone cheddar.
Propper cheddar from England that’s actually made for human consumption (not the cheap stuff or even the big brands sold here) will win over industrialised cheese in a one-on-one taste test hands down every single time.
Propper cheddar is on the same tier as other European cheeses and are chosen as the centre piece of a meal course because of the distinct flavours and textures.
However, the industrial “cheese” the US makes is perfect as an ingredient or topping in US fast food cuisine; it adds a cheese flavour and texture without trying to compete with the other flavours.
Hence why cheese singles or the European alternative of a thin slice of Edam are perfect for steam-melting on top of a burger.
I am fully willing to change my stance on this but I’ll need convincing, if I find myself in the US where should I look for the best cheeses from the different varieties of available in the US?
It sounds like you’re describing your hate for American Cheese not Cheddar cheese which is different, even in America.
Quite possibly, but from what I’ve seen via American media including cooking shows blocks of their cheddar still look like it has the same plasticy texture.
Like I said, I’m eager to be proven wrong, what are some genuinely good American cheddar producers?
I bet you have an air tight hobby coffin you hang out in so you can breathe your own farts all day.
Monterey Jack ain’t nothin’ to scoff at either
Also Colby Jack my beloved. Seriously if you hand me a burger with anything else you’re waking up with your own foot shoved up thine ass.
Maybe I haven’t found the right one, but the cheap cheddar here is like ‘fantasy cheese’ or ‘cheese product’ or whatever you want to call it, and the expense cheddar is more expensive then a range of local cheeses with similar or better characteristics, while the local alternatives are often cheaper. If locally it can fill your needs then power to you. As long as we can all enjoy our cheese in high quality and relative peace, everyone is winning. But in my locality it feels like I’m overpaying for underperformance.
Grilled some gruyere on toast tonight for a nice onion soup. Just telling you so you know you can trust I love cheese.
Yeah but cheese-like product is fucking good and tastes awesome on a cheese burger while Venezuelan Beaver Cheese or whatever the fuck they eat in France is nasty.
Have you ever tried a blue cheeseburger though?
People don’t like cheddar? There’s like five cheeses I would say anything bad about. Cheddar is nowhere near that list.
Sharp and aged cheddar is amazing. I’ve tried cheese from all over and it does compete. Still my go to and Ive had a decent variety in my day.
This is how I feel about American cheese, but the real stuff. Not the crap Kraft sells (other than their deli style slices).
A slice of real American cheese melted on anything is amazing!
American cheese is just cheese mixed with milk and an emulsifier like citric acid. It’s as much cheese as sausage is meat.
Yep, that’s real American cheese! Best cheese for sandwiches and grilled cheese.
No it really isn’t, what the actual fuck.
Try some high-fat (38%+) cheese on a grilled cheese sandwich some time. You’ll get a real cheese with this new thing called “flavor”, that also doesn’t melt in the first 4 seconds that the bread is being toasted, and once it is melted it will fuse with the bread and make you forget all about Jessica.
Nah, I like real American cheese. It’s not really a grilled cheese without American cheese.
Every …day? I’m seriously slacking on my cheese intake!
Dont worry, I’m covering your slack
The average human eats like 3 pounds of food a day iirc. If even a pound of that was cheese you’d probably die within two weeks. I don’t get the joke in this post.
I know what that guy’s name means thanks to Dexter’s Laboratory.

This episode is a master class in trolling French speakers decades down the line (it should be “omelette au fromage”/omelet with cheese. “Omelette du fromage” means omelet of cheese)
omlet of cheese
He said what he said.
I too stand behind this comment.
It’s one of like three episodes that I can actually really recall with any accuracy.
Yes, some grated cheese in omelette (with extra egg) is great.
90lbs a day? Bullshit.
People would just lie in the shitpost sub? What a preposterous idea!
This is a shitpost community. Screenshot here appears to be Twitter and so the context isn’t quite the same. Without context, any shitpost potential it has falls a little flat.
Twitter is a shitpost community.
OP being shown wasn’t in here. Although if that’s Xitter, then the entire site qualifies, I guess.
It is called lemmyshitpost, not lemmybullshitpost. So they have clearly a point. /s
This is just a statistical error. The average American eats 0 pounds of cheese per day. Cheese Georg, who eats thirty billion eight hundred thirty-four million pounds per day, is an outlier and should not have been counted.
Should use median cheese per day.
Had to look it up, about 40 lbs per year per person https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/chart-gallery/113732

you’ve clearly never been to America. My friend Graham eats at least 100 lbs a day
How many kilo grahams is that?
There’s no cheese in graham crackers. Dummy
But there is hamrags.
If you’re eating 90lb of cheese a day, there’s no shit at all
Not so, once you’re over cheese unity the cheese flows like water.
Those a rookie numbers. If you’re not slamming 100+ lbs of the orange every day, can you really call yourself American?
NFW I’m getting anywhere near slamming Chief Cheeto (unless we’re talking newspaper headline style). Proudly “un-American” here.
Yes, they were exaggerating for comedic effect. It’s actually WAY more than that.
It’s true, a much smaller number than most of us expected.
yeah who are these vegans they’re interviewing
no it’s true
