President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday creating a task force to oversee the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and he’s putting himself in charge of it.

The task force will coordinate federal planning for transportation, security and visa processing for the 2028 games. Mr. Trump said he’s directing agencies like the State Department and Justice Department to “use every tool at their disposal to ensure a fantastic, safe and beautiful event.”

The president will personally chair the task force — in line with a similar Trump-led task force to oversee preparations for the 2026 World Cup — and Vice President JD Vance will serve as its vice chair. Other members include Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.

In response to questions from reporters, the president said Tuesday, “we’ll do anything necessary to keep the Olympics safe, including using our National Guard or military.”

LA was chosen because the last LA Olympics was the last time a city didn’t rack up a huge debt getting things ready for the Olympics. And since there have been fewer and fewer cities requesting to host they picked LA extra early in hopes that LA can again keep the cost low enough that other cities might want to host again.

And now the idiot in chief is going to put himself in charge and insist that this be the biggest dumbest event ever to try to show off how great he is. And after the embarrassment of his birthday parade there is no way he is going to trust someone else to do this and if LA and the US goes bankrupt paying for it, then well that is Obama’s and Biden’s fault.

There’s no way the Olympics can really happen. First, Trump will be refusing to issue visas to athletes from countries that fail to give him big cash donations. Then, ICE will end up detaining the best athletes from other countries just to make sure it’s the American athletes who win.

What country would send its prized athletes here when they could end up detained and brutalized for months by ICE?

Oh man let it be Texas with their practically no building codes and already ridiculously poor public transit (in spite of tons of railways and massive, albeit quite stunning, urban highways).

Would love to watch a bunch shoddy rushed lowest-bidder stadiums on live TV. Do it.

The Olympic committee decides the host country and city around a decade in advance.

I was part of the marketing team that set up the website for LA’s petition back in 2018.

Hopefully, the people that Trump hates the most will take platinum medals. Foreign minority poors, basically. Hopefully they will talk about the shittiness of Dogey America and how Trump made a farce of the Olympics.

why would any country send athletes to the Olympics hosted in the US?

I really hope Canada just says fuck no. yes, it sucks for athletes who have been training for this. the whole situation also sucks for the rest of us.

I won’t be supporting this and I will try to avoid supporting any athlete or sponsor of this.

As much as I want that to happen, it won’t. Look at previous examples of Olympics hosted in Russia or China. Or look at the World Cup football in Qatar, in stadiums that were built by slaves, some of them died during construction. Countries didn’t boycot those events, why would that happen now?

And by “some of them”, you mean an estimated 6500 workers have died building the stadiums in Qatar. Didn’t stop Johnny football from enjoying his pints with the games.

You only need to buy transportation to the US.

Just have your athletes self deport thru ICE after their visa expires!

      50% cheaper than normal!

Wow, Trump really thinks he’ll still be capable of running a major event in 2028? He’s clearly been dealing with age-related decline for a while now. There is no recovering once dementia sets in (at least, at this point in medical science.) Then with his distain for the scientific community and the diverse people who do the research, that doesn’t bode well for finding a “cure” in the US anytime soon.

I have a feeling his participation is wishful thinking. I’ll be shocked if he’s still capable of running a bath unsupervised three years from now, let alone an entire Olympic event.

Generally the Olympics fucks the home city when it leaves. Trash everywhere and tourist behaviour, lack of etiquette “I wont be here next week” types. And the infrastructure built for it.

All of it abandoned and left for the home country to figure out when it leaves. You dont want an Olympic regulation pool, track, and more, with an athlete’s villa in that spot? Ah well we (the Olympic committee) fucked off after it ended so it’s all yours to clean up!

The IOC sell the rights for billions then tell the athletes, the actual content creators, they have to be amateur. In that sense the athletes come across as complete mugs.

Obviously a small number of high profile athletes make loads of money, the rest are skint. Sound familiar? (Hint: hello capitalism), whose ‘competition’ ethos/blag is absolutely promoted by the games. Unfortunately for us all, we need global co-operation, if we are to divert course away from cataclysmic climate change, not global competition, with the many ending up skint while the few take all of the money. The olympics do not help; they are an anachronism

Trump using it for an illegal re-election boost, as he inevitably will, really puts another nail in its coffin. Pity the world cup is in the US (again). FIFA is killing that goose too.

Everybody needs to boycott this shit…

It’s not safe for US citizens currently, certainly not for non-citizens. It’s not just the athletes but the support staff and fans that would also come over.

It’s just flat out not responsible for foreign countries to encourage their citizens to come here at the moment.

Trump’s executive order establishes a task force led by him and Vice President JD Vance to steer federal coordination for the Games. The task force will work with federal, state and local partners on security and transportation , according to the White House.

He’s going to try another false flag assassination attempt or something along those lines.

Proportional representation would be a big ask: that’d be the biggest constitutional amendment in history by a large margin. Recalls (and term limits, while we’re at it) are probably quite doable. Congress has had terrible approval ratings for decades now.

Executive orders are fine for directing executive agencies. They are being abused as a replacement for congressional legislation.
