“Lock him up,” Tuberville told the news website about Newsom. ”LA looks like a third world country — anarchists are in charge, law enforcement is being attacked, and the rule of law is nonexistent."

An hour later, Newsom took to X to reply to the Alabama politician.

“Alabama has 3X the homicide rate of California,” Newsom wrote. “Its murder rate is ranked third in the entire country. Stick to football, bro.”

Your definition of anarchy is what they try to sell on Fox News. That’s not what it actually is. Anarchism is actually a very structured system that opposes a ruling class controlling people and grants more freedom to the individuals to govern.

Fox News just takes the most extreme way in which anarchism can go wrong and promotes that as the default state.

I want to extend on this.

Anarchist thought is the awareness that true control/authority is an illusion and entities have an inherent freedom to disobey and choose according to their own will but also that they have to live the consequences of any actions.

To create order in anarchy is to realise that your own interests co-align with those of others and that working together to build a better world where we navigate anarchy rather then dismiss it is key to create a condition where people can flourish and mutual freedom and respect can emerge naturally.

Anarchism in practice is mostly finding perfectly good chairs in the dumpster then asking around if any one needs it.

Replace chair with bike, banana, computer, etc. and you have described probably what 90% + of anarachist movements actually spend their time doing. Oh and gardening. Anarchists often spend quite a bit of time gardening too.

Low median* income. The income distribution is skewed since a handful of people have all the money.

If you’re going to be pedantic, please be correct.

Median is a type of average, as are mean and mode.

I’m not being pedantic, you’re just wrong. The average income in the US is deceptively high, whereas the median is quite low. This difference (or skew) is a sign of inequality.

The arithmetic mean, also called the average, or the expected value, is not the same type of calculation as the median.

There are many types of means or averages (harmonic, geometric, etc), but they all require a summation, an integral for continuous random variables and sigma notation for discrete. The median is the middle value. Totally different.

              • If someone checks “US average income” they’ll come away with the impression that Americans are rich.

              • If someone checks “US median income” they’ll come away with the impression that Americans are poor.

Median is not the same as average. Also, we don’t check math definitions in a dictionary, since we are not in middle school.
