[green, pointing to a clock with Hitler above it, that reads 11:30] Oh no, look… It’s half to Hitler
[yellow, annoyed] Chill out buddy, don’t be such an alarmist
[green, pointing to a clock with Hitler above it, that reads 11:45] Oh no, look… It’s quarter to Hitler
[yellow, rude] Yeah I get it, I tweeted about it, leave me be
[green, pointing to a clock with Hitler above it, that reads 11:55] Oh no, look… It’s five to Hitler
[yellow, scared] Oh shit oh fuck, we really need to do something NOW
[green, pointing to a clock with Hitler above it, that reads 11:59] Oh shit, look… It’s one to Hitler
[yellow, terrified] It’s too late now, wish we could have seen it coming earlier
“For the evil to triumph, it is only necessary for good men to think they can solve things just by sharing memes…”
Thankfully, Orange shit is much older compared to Hitler and will not outlive most of us. Problem is what’s coming after and the cleanup.
If you think this ends with trump then good news, you will have no idea whats going to happen in 13 months.
They will, once again, choose to “move past” the event and not create any actual fixes.
Godwin’s law!
That’s funny, I was just coming to comment about remembering when Godwin’s law was a thing, and about how I wonder, now, if it helped contribute towards protecting the slow, continual growth of fascist ideology. Nazi thinkers not getting called out on their Nazi thoughts by invoking this made up rule.
Half to Hitler
If everything is Hitler, what do you say when it’s worse?
Have you noticed how everything is “fascism” now? The moment something feels uncomfortable, authoritarian, or just leans right of centre, the comments fill up with people screaming “fascist!” and farming upvotes. A word that once described one of the darkest movements in human history is now just shorthand for “stuff I don’t like.”
Fascism used to mean something specific, dictatorship, violent nationalism, suppression of dissent, and the merging of state and corporate power. Now it’s a moral trump card used by everyone, left and right alike. Online, it’s not about accuracy or understanding anymore. It’s about performance. Say the right buzzword, get the digital applause.
But when you call everything fascism, you stop recognising the real thing when it shows up. You dull people’s instincts. When actual authoritarian behaviour appears(censorship, personality cults, or persecution) nobody listens. They’ve already heard “the sky is falling” too many times.
The bigger problem, though, is that this kind of rhetoric kills any hope of conversation. Call someone a fascist, and that’s it. Discussion over. You’re not debating ideas anymore, you’re excommunicating people. Democracy needs dialogue, but online we’ve replaced curiosity with condemnation.
It’s been nearly ten years of this now. Ten years of the “culture wars.” Since Trump came down that elevator, both sides have been locked in the same cycle of outrage and self-righteousness. The “woke” call the “alt-right” fascists; the “alt-right” call the “woke” fascists. Each side sees itself as freedom’s last defence, and the other as tyranny incarnate. And in the middle? Just a lot of people too exhausted to care anymore.
You all wear your outrage like team colours. You look for the buzzwords that tell you which side something’s on. You check the upvotes to know which way your moral compass should point. You don’t want to understand; you want to win. And when you lose, you tell yourself it’s because the other side cheated.
Meanwhile, trust collapses. Institutions crumble. Every election becomes an existential crisis. And we sit here, screaming “fascist!” at strangers online while the world quietly rots behind the noise.
Ten years of not talking to each other. Ten years of anger, fear, and empty moral theatre. Ten years of the culture war. Ten years of virtue signalling. Ten years of using minorities as props in this tragic pantomime of dog shit.
What a bunch of fucking fascists…
Have you noticed how everything is “fascism” now?
No, I noticed fascism being called fascism.
Then youve not been paying attention.
Brilliant. Hey Genius, did you know Hitler joined the German Worker’s Party in 1919? That he was appointed as Chancellor of Germany in 1933? That he invaded Poland in 1939?
Tell me, deep thinker, during those 20 years, when do YOU think it was appropriate to start calling Hitler a fascist?
How about when people do fascist shit, we call them out for fascist behavior? Oh, and FFS learn how to summarize.
Remember when Trump got into power in 2016, and everyone said it was the end of everything… except that it wasnt. Remember that? Remember when people didnt really know any better, and instead of talking to them and trying to convince them, you called them names and shut them down? Remember when this was pointed out to you, and you just said “Its not my job to educate you”? Are you getting it yet?
Thats a nice chatgpt for “I haven’t read the news or Umberto Eco’s Ur-Fascism.”
Thats a nice “Im ignorant as fuck” for I didnt read that, and anything I read that I dont like is AI.
I mean, even if it was AI. Would the message be any less relevant? That talking is better than abusing? That sharing ideas and opinions, is better than just calling people names and shouting them down? Why in the blue fuck would it matter who said that?
Go on then, give me your argument against talking in favour of being a cunt to strangers. Explain to me how its better to attack people, than to talk with them to try to sort out differences. And remember, youre arguing for the right and left of the culture wars.
If you tolerate intolerant people, you will lose your right to tolerate them. Full stop. You cannot tolerate and debate everyone. Some people dont play by the same rules or have the same goals as you, and the human brain is flawed enough that ‘the marketplace of ideas’ cant exist to serve all ideas. Some are objectively bad. They are objectively, morally, wrong.
And if you let them in, they destroy. They serve no other purpose. It’s fine in fiction. Most people understand the empire in star wars are objectively the bad guys. Most people understand humans are the bad guys in Warhammer40k. Most people understand humanity were the bad guys in starship troopers. Most people understand the Klingons were the bad guys in the star trek universe despite some members of the species being reasonably morally Grey.
But in reality when we have fascists, we cant let them play out their fantasy.
If you tolerate intolerant people, you will lose your right to tolerate them Thats an excuse to be a cunt to people. Its the same excuse that they use to be cunts to use. If someone is a cunt, by all means, have at it. But we arent talking about that. We are talking about the assumption that X must equal Y at all times. Which simply isnt the case.
You are all going at each other determined to win. Nothing you have said here changes that. You want to win. Not to change anyones mind, not educate, not to try to understand other people. Only to win. They do the same thing. That is the culture wars. That is you and them and everyone else who is part of it. I mean, youre not even talking about them as they they were human beings. Dont you see that? Dont you see that you are using their same language? And using their same justifications? You could be MAGA talking about immigrants, the language would only be slightly different.
I mean, even if it was AI. Would the message be any less relevant?
Yes, obviously.
No, not obviously. If Trump said the sky was Blue, it wouldnt matter that a wannabe king said it. It would still be true, wouldnt it?
Part of culture wars is not caring what was said, only who said it. You are living in a nightmare of your own design, and even when spelled out to you how to get out of it, you wont listen because your favourite tiktoker didnt say it? ffs, mate.
Fascism used to mean something specific, dictatorship, violent nationalism, suppression of dissent, and the merging of state and corporate power.
…you are paying attention to current events in the US, right?
And were you not paying attention to the last 10 years of telling everyone that it was worst it was ever going to be? Do you really not get what it is that you have all done to yourselves? Do you really not understand the point of talking to people instead of attacking them?
In 2016, when Trump won, everyone was shocked. Why? Because of the echo chambers. Echo chambers created because “the left” would attack anyone who even dared ask a question that wasnt “orange man bad”. So instead of being able to reach those people and convince them of your argument, you drove them into silence. Or worse, you drove them into right wing echo chambers that told them it was going to be fine.
The worst thing your side of the culture war ever said was “Its not my job to educate you.”. Because “your side” of the culture wars is the same as “their side”. Its about winning, not talking, not fighting the good fight. Its about winning, and dog piling. Case and point, this fucking post.
I note the spelling “right of centre”. So help me out here: are you Canadian, British, Australian, Kiwi, …? So when you say “everything that just leans right of centre is called fascist” what the fuck are you actually talking about? In your specific political context?
You note my spelling, but not the message… American politics in a nutshell. Thanks for proving my point.
This applies just as well to Israel’s increasingly violent ethno-Fascism ending up in a Genocide about to turn into a new Holocaust, as it applies to the US’ empoverishment, explosion of inequality and collapse of social mobility which together with the domination of various pillars of Democracy by the moneyed elites made the election of a Fascist Populist a certainty.
The toon on the right is obviously a US-style Liberal - the last part (“Too late now, nothing we can do”) is especially telling.
Israel started as a genocidal state, it continued as a genocidal state, and it still is a genocidal state. Settler Colonialism is genocide.
Indeed: the Nakba was already a Genocide.
My point is about Israel’s “evolution” toward a Genocidal nation with levels of violence and rabid racism similar to Nazi Germany, from the generic “19th-Century White Colonialism” model they started with.
With that “Hitler clock”, this cartoon is pretty much a perfect representation of how Israel has changed over time from run-of-the-mill white colonialist nation to its current state a ultra violent rabbid ethnostate just about to commit their own version of the Holocaust by starving Gazans, and of the reactions of mainstream Western politicians to both Israel’s “evolution over time” and it’s current state.
The thing is no one, literally no one, could have seen this coming.
His first term was text book in political perfection, and then he goes and does a 720 kickflip and gets all tyrannical and dictator-ish.
You know who really caused all this? Obama’s second daughter, that’s who. She’s the leader of the Illuminati, I tell ya.
He did a 180 and then moon walked
Well done. I had to stop mid read to read that again because I couldn’t believe my eyes
Textbook in political perfection?!
Don’t you remember the first thing he did in 2017 was ban all foreigners from entering the country, and thank goodness we still had checks-and-balances back then because the REAL people running the country shut down that idea real damn quick.
What I want to know is what happened to the checks & balances?! They do not seem to be in place anymore.
You’ve been whooosh’d. Sorry.
I thought the 720 kickflip and the Obama’s daughter being the leader of the Illuminati remarks would mean I didn’t need the /s.
Poe’s law claims another victim
Ah thank you for clarifying. I honestly only made it to the second paragraph and enjoyed the metaphorical 720 kickflip imagery.
It’s one year past Hitler. That ship has sailed.
Liberal apathy is how you get to Hitler.
Apparently they do not understand the Paradox of Tolerance, or they’re motivated to ignore it.
Too bad we didn’t have people like you to fix it for us. Tell us, how did you fight the Nazis this week?
I personally punched one of them during a protest. How have you helped? If everyone on lemmy punched just one nazi we’d by out of this by dinner time. But lots of you guys dont want to.
Sounds real
Yes, during the second most widespread protests in us history, with the second most counter protestors, it seems so incredibly unlikely a few fights happened. But somehow they did.
Liberal apathy is how you get to Hitler.
At an executive level, sure.
But the dogged insistence that fascism just happens and nobody does anything about it ignores the armies of protestors, the various pushback at state and local levels, the independent media rallying opposition, and the multiple assassination attempts on fascist figures.
This is in stark contrast to Dem political leadership, who seem to think Donnie is just another guy you make deals with.
they do not understand the Paradox of Tolerance
For the DC elites, they do. They just can’t decide whether Trump is really a problem or merely a fundraising vehicle.
For the propes, urgency exists, but not the power to do anything about it
Nice sentiment, not based in reality though.
Voters are guided by their own personal circumstances, often punishing leaders when economic conditions worsen and rewarding them when they improve, paying little heed to the politician’s actions.
This only happens in the us btw.
Based
In other words, voters are morons.
Remember, half of American voters can’t read better than a middle school student
Voters are just people. People are largely morons, so yes.
When education is purposefully defunded and left to rot for decades now, is it really that surprising things are the way they are? When voters are more educated, they tend to vote Democrat.
If a country wants to prevent this, then it needs protections that can’t go away for education. Furthermore, media companies need to be held to higher standards of reporting, and at this point I feel that influencers should fall under that bucket as well.
Personally, I don’t hate the idea of tying the ability to vote behind getting any Associates Degree. With the caveat that the college would need to be free and accessible to anyone that wishes to go, with a room and food expenses covered to accommodate people. I feel this is a fairer way to get Aristotle’s idea of restricting voting to the educated.
That’s correct yes
“Realpolitik”
Nah, this road was inevitable for the US - liberal apathy is a nonsense; it suggests US voters had a choice or a say - they don’t and never have. The two parties overlap in their beliefs - there has never been true choice. There was the veneer of democracy, but the system has been rigged for decades if not a century or more. There are 2 parties who have dominated in every state and at every level, and play voters off against each other. Anyone interested in politics has no choice but to join the red team or the blue team - if they don’t they’ll never achieve anything. The 2 parties have pushed beyond first-past-the-post to extremes with gerrymandering to ensure no 3rd party will ever get a look in. The Democrats and Republicans have written all the rules to suite themselves, and it’s ended up that the extreme end of one party can dominate the lot and do what it wants.
1/3 of voters vote Democrat, 1/3 Republican and 1/3 don’t vote because why bother. The US President has immense power, and their primary checks and balances are entirely partisan and always have been. The Supreme Court has always been partisan with Democrat and Republican political appointees, and Congress is by it’s nature partisan and divided in 2 between the 2 parties due to the entire system. The players of the game have set all the rules.
If you want to see what comes next, look at Russia. It never had a strong system post communism, and Yeltsin was drunk and out of touch with reality towards the end of his tenure. Putin was his advisor and managed to manipulate Yeltsin and make himself his heir apparent. Putin has then gone on to dismantle even the semblance of democracy they had, becoming a dictator and now an aggressor invading country after country. And unlike Hitler, his opponents in the west are divided.
Trump is a disaster, but what we should all be really worried about is what comes next. Trump is the USA’s Yeltsin; it’s the US Putin who comes next we should all be terrified of.
I honestly don’t see any way back from the abyss in the USA. Anyone who wants to stop Trump of course has to vote Democrat because that’s the system. But whose to say the US Putin won’t be a Democrat? Red team or Blue team - it doesn’t matter; neither believe in democracy they just believe in the game.
US Voters had a choice and a say and a plurality voted for literal Hitler while almost 9 Million people who voted hitler out in 2020 didn’t show up at all for 2024.
By Liberals, I assume the people who were saying that Gaza didn’t matter if Trump got elected again?
I’d mean all the people dumb enough to get Trump elected by thinking you could beat him by espousing almost exactly his policies. Who wants Trump-lite when you could have the real thing?
Nice way to let off all the people who didn’t vote against Trump.
“We thought Harris would be exactly the same!!”
Could you conceive of a world where they voted against Trump but also against genocide?
It’s been almost a year can you really not just accept that you were wrong and that sacking up and voting for Kamala would have been the correct move?
Sorry, it’s kind of a “human” thing to not vote for genocide.
Well congrats on your pyrrhic victory of not voting.
I can conceive of anything.
But what I conceive wouldn’t be the reality of the last election.
Here are two examples of people doing politics. Take notes.
Frederick Douglas was an escaped slave. In 1860 he had a choice; speak out for the strongly pro-abolition candidate, or back Lincoln, who was not going to call for immediate abolition. Douglas figured that it was better to back Lincoln and have the President’s ear, than to back a candidate who had no chance of winning.
Martin Luther King’s top assistant was a gay Black man named Bayard Ruskin. Ruskin never put himself forward, even though he was a vital part of the Movement. He knew that America wasn’t ready to accept LGBTQ issues at that time, so he stayed silent.
So, can you conceive of looking at things dispassionately and playing the long game?
Playing “the long game” on genocide is effectively actively murdering people, especially when previous administrations have actually employed the “yank the chain” policy on israel. There is no long game here, there’s genocide or no genocide.
As we speak, the genocide is ongoing. So nothing you advocate actually helped.
You can stamp your feet and scream all you want, but ignoring the facts does nothing.
Yes, but not voting lead to the beginning of a hispanic genocide in the states, so im not really sure they cared all that much when they just made genocide bigger and more expansive
Reprehensible as it is, we’ve seen no evidence of a Hispanic genocide (yet). The scale isn’t there, and there’s active internal pushback. It doesn’t benefit the corporate class so it likely has a shelf-life. Whether the pushback comes to anything or halts creeping fascism remains to be seen, but such a concept is currently completely hypothetical.
The Gaza genocide however, is real, and may still be happening. Also, big difference between “not voting” and “not voting for your corporate party prescribed candidates”.
I thing a more relevant comic would be if both people understand it’s about to be hitler and neither of them can agree on what to do about it, resulting in Hitler.
And now we’ll never know if we could’ve won them over with words.
Hitler? … What are you talking about? … we need to have full blown genocidal war, concentration camps where millions are murdered every day, mass military invasions of countries, nuclear war and complete lawlessness throughout the land with people murdering, raping and mutilating each other … anything less than that is not yet Hitler.
So stop your alarmism all the time, it’s not yet Hitler.
I think everyone down voting you missed the sarcasm. This post is about not yet Hitler but they don’t like your not yet Hitler.
Also, Hitler shoots himself in the head while his wife dies from cyanide poisoning, so not yet Hitler
Exactly … the world won’t admit it to being a fully fascist state of affairs until the entire world is literally falling apart and people are dying by the tens of thousands or millions due to war, genocide, famine, death and destruction.
Until then, everyone will keep arguing that things aren’t that bad yet
Nah, even that wouldn’t be Hitler. Hitler is a concept that can never be met or exceeded in real life. Hitler is always worse. /s

Surprisingly good.
