Hey if you’re in a hospital they can like, give you a hot bath. This doctor is supremely bad at his job.

NW Florida here. 50F for a high today, windy, coldest it’s been so far, promise no one will dress appropriately. Right now people are running in and out of stores, hugging themselves tight in their summer clothes.

Women are usually more sensible as they have rockin’ fall clothes. But still. Yes, those riding boots are very cute. No, the paper thin, breathable pants aren’t doing you any good.

I think I’ve worn long trousers twice in the last five years.

    Both for funerals.

Of people who died heroically of hypothermia. 💪

White guys wearing shorts when its cold memes always makes me think of Suffer for fashion by Of Montreal . Thanks everyone for reminding me its time for an Elephant 6 listen session.

Personally I was always confused by it. I’m a white guy who loves long clothes and rock jeans whenever I can. My dad would (still does sometimes) wear shorts when its sub 50°F. I would ask why and he said he was from Michigan so I wrote it off.

I had a few friends in middle and high school who would wear shorts year round. I never realized why and they told me they were tough and shorts look cool. After growing up and looking back on their situation they probably only owned a set of clothes for year round use.

God, shorts wearers live in your heads rent free. I wore pants today and have had 5 people make comments. I literally do not think about how anyone else dresses for weather but it seems everyone thinks about me a lot.

They’re just mad that we don’t seem to get cold.

Which is really odd because I fucking hate how quickly I get hot and sweaty. Went to some friends yesterday, it was 9c outside and I wore shorts for the walk over there. I was still sweating underneath my fucking jacket by the time we got over there - it was a ten minute walk.

Yeah I would rather be mildly chilly than sweat and be absolutely freezing.

Granted, we all know this is just bullshit divisive online drama meant to drive engagement, so this is mostly tongue in cheek.

I can’t speak for everyone, but here’s my deal. I’m already sporting the equivalent of a knitted sweater and wool pants BEFORE I even put on a single article of clothing and my body temperature runs higher than average. I simply do not experience cold the same way that a lot of other people in my life experience it. My feet, hands, and arms might get cold. Even my head and my core sometimes get cold. But I don’t think I’ve ever truly experienced “cold legs”.

Shorts are a major quality of life thing that allow me to better control my body temperature. Also, my modern adult life means I’m indoors 20+ hours a day, largely against my will. Let me maximize the quantity of my physical comfortable, especially if I’m already having to deal with miserable people in an overheated office/room/building with essentially no air movement. Just makes more sense to dress in a way that’s appropriate for the majority of my day.

Keeping in mind, though, that I also do wear pants at times, and it’s not always shorts 100% of the time. But it’s enough that people do sometimes make comments. Mostly lighthearted, but not always.

If women are allowed to wear skirts and shorts in cold weather deep into the cold winter, guys should also be able to wear wtf makes them comfortable. A nice breeze on the bottom parts with a cozy warm top is a great feeling.

    Fuck the patriarchy.

I feel seen and understood. And I’m not white.

Although, I’m currently in the Tennessee/North Carolina cold snap panic. People are all bundled up, and I am genuinely comfortable in my shorts and sandals. About 5 less degrees or 10 MPH more wind, and I’d put on shoes.
