Bro came over w/ his bubs yesterday. Always nice to see the new addition but not quite sure what to think about it.

Basically he hasn’t been here to help (this is well before the bubs arrival when major shit was going down w/ ol’ girl) and is now not so subtly suggesting we look after the baby so they can have some respite as child care is too $$$. Saying other grandparents look after their grand kids… basically guilt tripping.

    1. Ol’ girl is in absolutely no shape to do any of that (and it wouldn’t be safe for the bubs). He knows that but still pushing for it which I find remarkable.

    2. Ol’ boy would be hopeless.

    3. Might make me an arsehole but I’m not doing it on top everything else.

It’s just mind boggling how he’s even thinking that’s possible. I didn’t call him out on the guilt tripping (should have in hindsight) but i find the whole thing a bit poor.

it’s not actually possible, no amount of guilt tripping regarding respite and money will change that

it’s called parenting, I suggest one of the parents look after the baby while the other has some rest and recreation

but what they want is time to go to cafes together and such, not respite

I was surprised he used that word.

Apparently the mum hardly leaves the house and sits w/ the baby all day on the couch. I pointed out that you see heaps of young couples out and about w/ their bubs. But you can’t expect to dump the bubs w/ two 80yr olds one with serious health issues and it’s fine.

Something tells me I should probably stay away from any conversations that go like that lol.

Yeah that’s not good. She needs to see her maternal health nurse or a GP. Your brother probably doesn’t know how to handle this. Asking your parents to look after a baby is definitely not the answer.

Have there been health issues with the baby, because mum may be too scared to take baby out.

Even if not a visit to the GP would be a good idea.

These people sound incredibly selfish. To an insane degree man.

I honestly can’t believe they’d have the nerve to ask considering everything else that’s happening.

FFS. You’re already caring for old girl because old boy won’t, old boy is making you cook for him because she can’t, and now you’re expected to babysit so they can go off and have a fun little time (while never having helped you with anything).

Why is Bottom_racer being asked to do everything for everyone?

    RIP hyacinth bucket

Also my Lego can be collected in just over 5 hours. Not like I’m awake and counting or anything…

My daughter comes home tonight and although I’ve had a GRAND OL’ TIME where the memories will last for years I have missed the fiery little peppercorn dearly. I have not missed “What’s for dinner?” every day or “hello parents” everytime one walks into the room.

If I don’t know better due to previous visits, I’d swear Spotlight was just ransacked by a troupe of rampaging baboons. The place is a permanent mess no matter what day or time it is.

I wish they’d tidy it a bit. It’s a nightmare to find stuff and there’s never anyone to ask. Website will say somethings is in stock but good luck finding it. It’s probably shoved somewhere randomly with different colour/size/description items.

Last night I made cheese toasties and I put about 10 birdseye chillis on the man’s sandwich (didn’t cut them but I did take the stalks off) and the look on his face when eating it was pure joy. He said it was the best toastie he’s ever had. He’s still talking about it today.

What a stunning day!! Went out to the Yarra Valley to see the crab apple blossoms at Alowyn and they were so beautiful! Wysterias look to be a week off, so it was still reasonably quiet there. Took my DJI and had some fun filming to try and practice some editing. Stopped for ramen lunch on the way home!

    Blossoms!

I slept a solid 7 hours! Who knew locking my door against cats would help.

Also construction seems to have ceased and it’s quieter here now.

I managed a very non-solid 7 hours. Miss Meow came in about 3am, pinned me down and purred loudly in my ear.

Got a bike ride in before the sun started to go down, a cruisey 9km. Third time on the bike this year after a few years off, so taking it easy but keen to return to the days of 50km+ rides!

Jammed a lot into today, not sure what’s left for tomorrow, so cheers all!! 🍾

Social sports tournament today and our team came first in our division. I’ve played a few of these tourneys and never placed better than 3rd out of 4 teams (it’s pretty competitive) so this is an awesome feeling. We won some cash and the teams had beers in the sun afterwards, great day.
