  • I’ve been feeding him and giving him spot ons for a few months and that alone has made a massive difference to his fur and health.

But it looks like he’s still got ringworm, still scabby itchy and bald in places, and still sneezing wetly which is probably an upper respiratory infection/cat flu. He’s desperate for attention and affection which means constantly dealing with zoonosis if it remains untreated. And winter is coming. :(

I see so many of this sort of owner and it makes it so hard when the animal needs medical attention.

  • I cleared the room, moved the bed and vacuumed more of the floor.

    spoiler

I found another short little whisker and a shed claw sheath. And tripped over Melbcat’s food bowl so I had to sweep all the uneaten biccies up into the bin. 💔Her water bowl has dried up. I still can’t believe it.

Everything feels so bitter, lonely and sad.

Edit: I checked again and found a days old email about the black cat from an owner saying he’s desexed and microchipped. It’s like I feared 🫩 He’s a neglected outside cat. I’ve let the rescue lady know he may not be eligible for foster due to that. It’s lucky I checked again before taking him inside. (This cheap generic chip scanner can probably go in the bin.)

But now I’m in the situation I didn’t want to be. Where the cat isn’t being cared for and will keep coming to me - yet I can’t take him to the vet or find/give him a home. Even letting him crash overnight or confining him for ringworm treatment may be dicey. Worse than that he’s just one year off being a senior and the ringworm pills alone may not clear him up. And I’d bet money he’s not being vaccinated regularly.

And yeah I’m not minding my own business. But this cat was crying to be let in late at night while it rained and constantly sleeps on my property. The underside of his jaw was scratched bald and his fur was so patchy. Always hungry. I genuinely thought something happened to the owner or he had been dumped.

  • I’m moving all my stuff to the back room… a bit worried that when the ceiling gets done in there it’ll waft mould spores and plaster dust all over my belongings but I might try to pack everything in into sealed boxes.

Oversprayed the bottle of Feliway inside the tent and am now trying to air it out. Ordered lime sulphur dip off Amazon. I’m being crazy and inviting so much chaos into my life. But if I cave and bring the scabby baby inside I need to be prepared to contain him.

Rethinking my decision to give the cat away to rescue… I wanted to not have to go through yet another high stress time again so soon, didn’t want to replace Melbcat, and also wanted to get him safely on a lifeboat out of this shitty place. But it’s not looking likely that he’ll have somewhere to go and I’m getting attached to him.

But it’s not that simple. I have no idea if he’ll accept indoor living and this blasted ringworm makes it near impossible to slowly get him used to it. (Perhaps if I could find an affordable plastic floor covering that could cover an entire room? Or a painting drop sheet? There is self adhesive carpet protector but I’d have to price it out and the adhesive may transfer and be hard to get out of carpet. It’s happened with masking tape on clothing and walls.) I have no idea if the meds will get rid of it quickly. If there’ll be a microchip that shows up. Whether I’ll always compare him to Melbcat. The LEGALITIES. I hate uncertainty and only time will tell what is going to happen here. 🙃

Edit: Checking out Aldi on the laptop and see the site now has sorting options and Doordash delivery. I don’t want to use Doordash but depending on delivery cost this could be a game changer for people without cars or much PT. So angry my body decided to nerf me because there are a lot of very cheap basics (at least on the site) and with my meal prep skills I could be eating so cheaply and well… unfortunately many I can’t have and the few things I can eat aren’t really available in the actual shop.

  • I got the tent and set it up inside just in case. The little one has forgiven me for last night and came back this morning for food and gloved pats. Was meowing to come in. Haven’t let him in yet but I’m trying to get ready in case it has to happen.

I’ve got a big birthday coming up but am sad Melbcat isn’t here to share it. I’m probably just going to do normal stuff (or as normal as things get around here).
