  • I may have gotten a touch annoyed about the open ended questions on the RACV survey and been a touch cheeky with my answers. But really, why can’t they just ask if I’m happy with the service instead of ‘how likely are you to recommend us’. And then to demand reasons!

I told them I was happy with the service but unlikely to start an RACV fan club. I also told them the telephone operator was a touch robotic, (because I didn’t actually speak to a live person).

  • The battery turned out to be even more expensive than anticipated, as the auto stop/start feature needs a more expensive battery to power it. But apparently it still had the original battery, which makes it 7 years old so I really can’t complain. Plus 56% of my driving is currently claimable as work km, so the battery is 56% tax deductable!

The technician was much better than the last one, changing over the battery efficently and doing some sort of mysterious communion with the computer that is apparently important. Mind you, it wouldn’t take much to beat my last experience with having a battery changed, which involved a guy who was very shaky and I think hung over. He took about an hour trying to fit the battery unsuccessfully before figuring out it was the wrong size battery.

  • All good for now. The problem was the battery, so the car was started and I’m now in Melbourne. It will be a coin toss as to whether it’s going to start again, so I’m going to get a new battery today.

I was a bit concerned with all the warning lights. I think the voltage drop from the failing battery triggered sensors to detect non-existant faults, which also stopped the car from even trying to start. So it didn’t try to turn over and fail like I’m used to with battery issues.

  • I keep thinking of more benefits to this - our Facilities Manager at work won’t be able to lie to us about things meeting the Standards when they don’t because we’ll actually have access to the Standards! We might be able to get a couple of issues with the kitchens at work fixed finally.

I’ve also thought of a couple more times I’ve wanted to access Standards for minor things - looking up requirements for labelling pet treats and labelling clothing when I’ve had a fancy to maybe sell a few of my creations at a market. It’s very offputting to know there are laws that cover what you want to do but you are not able to find out what they are without paying an excessive amount.
