it was pretty obvious how they treated trump during his trials, they wernt even planning on actually sentencing or charging him, threats aside this also give him more good press than kamala and biden, because all MSM focused on trump 24/7 last year. the gop and DNC often make deals with each other behind the door, to benefit both parties, something they keep secret.

Can I have my 3rd party now, especially since the DNC is already running as a third party in NYC after they forgot to rig their own primary again.

People who get heated over declarations that both sides are the same, take note. This is what we mean when we say this. The Democratic Party could not any more obviously be controlled opposition. This entire team is full of venture capitalists, wealthy people, wealth-backed people.

Both sides aren’t the same. In the same sense that the good cop and the bad cop who come to interrogate me aren’t the same. It’s true the bad cop is going to knock me about a bit and scream at me, and the good cop is going to be nice to me. But they both work for the police. They both are trying to land me in jail. They’re on the same side. They’re just trying to get what they want out of me from two different angles. The one angle is direct, it does the heavy lifting. Why do you think the Republicans always get so much done when they’re in power but when the Democrats hold majorities they don’t get anything done? It’s for the same reason that the good cop doesn’t get me set free back onto the streets without a shred of new evidence out of me. It’s unbelievable that people fall for the oldest trick in the book when it’s so clearly presented. The people who think the Democratic Party aren’t controlled opposition are like people who think the circus clown really didn’t mean to slip on that banana peel and land on the whoopee cushion. It’s a show, my god.

I can’t speak for everyone but for me personally I’m less angry about the whole “both sides are the same” argument than I am about the total lack of a plan over what to do about it. I agree with what you just said but it gets really old hearing it from people who seemingly think that simply saying the line is enough to actually effect change. Absent of a plan it really feels more like a conspiracy to divide the left than a path towards real change.

I feel ya. I also am very irritated by the tendency of people to say things that are “so brave” and seem to think that they’ve achieved something. It’s too bad I did a bit of that myself there. I don’t know what sort of plan there could be. I think the reality is that the situation is messed up in a way that only wealthy powerful people could effectively fix, and good luck getting them to do that.

I feel like supporting people like Mamdani, especially locally, is the best we’ve got. Yes, I realize the intense irony of the fact that he’s literally a member of the Democratic Party, but he’s far on the leftmost side of it. I was seeing some other good discussions about how parties can change over time. I think it may be possible to drag the Democratic Party kicking and screaming to the left over time, and the way to do it is to absolutely put a stop to “blue no matter who” voting mentalities. They may be the good cop, but they still want their personal money and power. There is some legitimate competition there between the parties: competition about who gets to rig the system most in the favor of their sponsors/companies/etc. As long as people vote “blue no matter who”, the party has literally no incentive to offer more liberal candidates.

I could swear the original Swype keyboard for Android all the way back in 2012 did a better job than modern phone keyboards.

The thing that blows my line mind is that you will swipe or tap out an obvious typo, and the phone is smart enough to read the context of the sentence, and Apple claimed years ago about reverse context corrections, but it seems to never ever make the obvious corrections.

We have the technology! Why on earth can no one make it work?

Edit: the original typo is such a perfect example, I feel the need to keep it visible.

Oh 100%. It was so easy to type and/or Swype back then. I remember complaining in the late teens how it had gotten much worse.

Back around 2012 people were impressed by how fast I could write in a phone without errors, now? I can barely type a sentence without typos.

on top of that, LLMs are perfect for this, why aren’t they used?

the LLM can get the context of the sentence and very clearly guess of I mean “if” or “of”. and it can be fine tuned to your writing style as well.

iOS does make corrections in previous text given additional context. Like change “your” to “you’re”, for example. It still fails miserably on contractions in the most vexing way, but sometimes it is pretty good. And the key detection by changing the hitbox is really quite good, even when using a multilingual keyboard.

If you’re on android and using swiftkey that might be your culprit. For ages I thought I was getting worse but the more I looked at it the more I noticed Swiftkey was suggesting me words that didn’t exist or were spelt wrong. Eventually I switched keyboards and it became way easier.

The Democrats are beyond saving and need more than reform. Their abuse of the two party system bought us fascism, and only by breaking their hold do we have any hope for a brighter future.

the Ds and Rs are a uniparty anyways, basically they are a coalition of that one party. center right wing and more right wing party. occasionally the Ds throw thier constiuents a BONE or 2, to satiate the voter base. The Rs have all thier voters down in lockstep.its all backdoor deals, of which the megadonors are the liasons.

“Do nothing. Let Trump harm people. Use the carnage to discipline our own left flank. Lock out all the leadership and campaign positions in the party to prevent a progressive revolt. Run the exact same campaign we lost on in 2016 and 2024, while actively AVOIDING the much further left policies that got us over by 7M votes in 2020.”

    It’s not the party plan…

It’s the neoliberal’s plan because they no longer control the DNC

The best course of action is let them sit at their table and huff and puff. Maybe they’ll get dinner with Clooney again.

The worst course of action is to waste effort in a futile attempt to join the club they just invented. Even if they let rational people in, they won’t listen. We need to focus on what matters.

Ken Martin is better than Tom Perez or Debbie Schultz. But he’s hardly a radical. He’s a Minnesota liberal in the Wellstone model.

We need to focus on what matters.

Let me know when the head of the DNC can get the rest of the party to endorse the popularly elected nominee for NYC Mayor.

If they can’t get behind cheap buses, low cost housing, and lower grocery bills, what the hell are they focusing on exactly?

what the hell are they focusing on exactly?

Inclusivity and LGBQ+ issues (absence of the T is intentional). This is because those are issues that’ll get them some popular support while in no way offending the capitalist class

You’re not wrong, but from my limited perspective it doesn’t look like the capitalists are united on this.

There’s the “old money” types (think banks, long term investment, industry) who support the Democrats today because they want nothing to fundamentally change.

Then there’s the “new money” types (think crypto bros, short term hair traders, software companies) that support the Republicans for the crashing and burning of the economy in order to buy up what’s left at bargain bin prices.

That starts at the very top with Cherny himself, whose most recent project before this was a scandal-ridden corporate venture.(…) and far from being “one hundred percent fossil-fuel free,” that fund invested least in renewable energy while owning shares in a number of dirty companies.(…) The move resulted in a series of possibly fraudulent deals struck under Cherny’s nose, which eventually earned the firm a federal probe and, most recently, the arrest of his former business partner.

And that thing is in charge just because he is s well connected Christian… You guys are the best working cleptocracy ever seen…

I’m sure these neoliberals wish they could just do what they did in Chile in the early 1970s: overthrow a democracy and replace it with a neoliberal dictatorship.

Admittedly, they don’t necessarily want a permanent dictatorship, it’s more a means to achieve their final goal, which is a neoliberal technocracy. They believe that neoliberalism has been proven to be the best socioeconomic system - the culmination of, and end of, all human history - and that if we can just get the right technocrats in power they can tweak and adjust things just right so as to get neoliberal capitalism back on track. It is, after all, the last and only system human beings will ever need (according to them).
