As far as I understand it (I’m not a historian or American) the confederacy being economically weaker than the union was a significant factor in the civil war.

I am not quite in that demographic but getting pretty close. I’ve bought maybe a game a year for a very long time now. Most non-indie stuff is complete and utter trash. If I see a AAA publisher logo, I take it as a sign that it’s not worth my time or money.

In general, it’s true that Linux doesn’t need to restart for most updates. However, if you get a power cut right in the middle of an update, that could leave your OS in a really bad state. Therefore, for safety reasons, some distros (apparently including CachyOS) do updates in a ‘safe mode’ on boot, so that if there’s a power cut it just rolls back cleanly.

In short, how exactly distros approach updates differ slightly. A tradeoff between safety and convenience.

100% agree. Even as a Fedora user, in the rare occasion I have some obscure issue the Arch wiki is a godsend. Even though I’ve never actually used Arch, I’m still extremely grateful for the work they do on documenting every little thing for desktop Linux. A lot of that info is applicable for all Linux desktop distros.

If you know vaguely what you’re doing or are willing to learn, you can go with whatever and it’ll be fine.

Personally not a big fan of debian because they tend to be slower and more conservative on updates. Arch is a bit more technical, but very customizable.

I’m personally a big fan of Fedora. Software updated quickly enough to have all the bells and whistles, slow enough to not get cut by bleeding edge software.

Not yet. As far as I understand, the target is 2028 with a phased rollout: first emergency services, then tests like radiology, CAT scans, etc, then dental & optometry last. At every stage the elderly will be prioritized, then children, then everyone else. The phased rollout is to build capacity so the system doesn’t get overrun and collapse.

It’s steam keys you aren’t allowed to sell cheaper elsewhere. Which makes some amount of sense: sell your game 30% cheaper elsewhere? None of their business. Sell a steam key 30% cheaper elsewhere? You’re using their download servers, infrastructure, social features, etc without giving them their cut.

The reason why I love the 10 point difference rule is that it makes every buff on your allies and every debuff on your enemies feel super impactful. A bard in DnD giving a +1 to hit feels very meh, but a bard in pf2e doing the same thing gets to be like “I did that! I’m helping!” when an ally crits on an 18 instead of a 19 due to that +1.

While true, it basically never happens that such a massive power imbalance would happen in a real campaign outside of either a set-piece where a PC tries to punch a god, or a comedic moment where a toddler tries to slap a PC. You’re basically never going to see a 30 point difference between AC and +to hit.

The old 3.5e frenzied berserker Barbarian was fun. If you run out of enemies while frenzying, you start attacking your own party. Had a wizard in the party with calm emotions prepared at all times just in case.

That campaign ended when we entered a cave, and a goblin archer hit me for 2 damage or something silly. Failed my will save, started frenzying. Wizard, in a panic, cast light over the archers so I could see them. My character leaped over a gap, needed an 18 to not fall to his death. Proceeded to slaughter all the goblins in 2 turns.

Wizard cast calm emotions, will save passed. Proceeded to jump over the gap again and massacre the party. Last other PC bleeding out on the floor, and goblin reinforcements arrive. My character tries to jump over the gap again, finally fails the athletics roll and falls to his death.

Nobody could breathe due to laughter for quite a bit after that. The silliest TPK I’ve ever seen.
