Looking forward to drinking a toast to Peter Dutton, former member for Dickson (fingers crossed).
I have a bottle of bubbly on hand and a bottle of scotch in case it’s another 2019…
GP appt on standby to ask for some medication for these trying times, should that nightmare come to pass…
CHEERS!
My short wishlist for today:
- Devastating LNP loss
- Dutton loses his seat
- Amelia Hamer is never heard from again
Clive Palmer to have a shower slipping accident with a brass instrument
All those, plus:
- a good cake stall at the polling station
As a Malvernite, I’ll be devastated if Kooyong actually votes Amelia in, too many of her signs on houses in my suburb.
They would all be good things. I’m also hopeful that my local member, Michael Sukkar, might lose his seat as well. It was very close last time - it looked like he had lost initially, then it swung back to him as the postal votes were counted. He won on a 0.2% margin, and I saw some recent polling saying he is now predicted to be leading by 0.02%, so it really could go either way.
I have a friend who lives in that seat! It was only a few hundred votes which is crazy 🗳
YES
I’m a bit worried because Kooyong did get redistributed to include the extra rich out-of-touch boomer folks in Armadale and Malvern (?)
Discussion about the federal election is allowed and encouraged.
Criticism about candidates, parties and pundits are all welcome.
Don’t be afraid to use the report function, a screenshot if you feel the need to.
Keep it civil and if you disagree with another user, you can either disagree with them courteously or simply down-vote and not reply.
I feel a good life is possible , with opportunities and fairness, for the young seagoons , and all aussies 😭
i would not have had that feeling if the libs got in
we need to better manage our natural resources and taxation and then we will be gold like scandinavia
Is it safe to come out now?
I think it is. Antony Green has called it
such a swing is amazing
I’ve been really stressed for a lot of reasons (general fear of Australia choosing to be smaller and meaner and personal because I work in a environmentally/renewables aligned job that would be massively at risk) . I feel better. I hope a few of the climate aligned independents get in to hold them to account.
shared hugs 😭
now for our friends in America to get rid of of the republicans in the mid terms next year , only 22 % of Americans voted for trump. the vast majority do not want him
Yeah. I have been talking to a bunch of colleagues in the US lately & it’s tough. They are not their government. I am just so glad we didn’t go that way.

Even though I care not for the spud, after Trump and the shenanigans about stolen elections, I am proud that I live somewhere where elections are called and there is some basic civility around the gracious defeat speech then the victory speech. This might be the bottle of bubbly talking…
He handled that well, I can give him that. On what’s clearly a challenging day for him personally, he’s been quite dignified in defeat
I think we sometimes forget how good it is here compared to other Global North countries, especially in regards to elections, and our voting rights.
The book From Secret Ballot to Democracy Sausage has a great history on voting in Australia and how it compares to other countries
Yes! I have read that. Was great
Ooo I’ll have to give that a read! Thank you! 💜
It was nice to see a regular professional concession speech again.
This Canadia wishes you Aussies the best possible outcome! You can do it!
Fuck yeaaaaaah
Beep Beep 🚚
🍧🍰🧁🥧🍦🍨🎂🍮🍭🍬🍫🥜🌰🍪🍿🍯🥛☕️🍵🍺🍶🥤🧋🧃🥂🍷🥃🍸🍹🧉🔋Champers all round I reckon. Victoria deserves it. Slightly less political idiocy than usual, though there’s still plenty to go around.
🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🍾
Champagne for me please, and a big drink of water for the fire trucks I keep hearing drive past. I’m presuming it’s my local MPs chances of keeping his seat going up in flames.
🥂🍾🌊
Popcorn and a nice single malt please
🍿🥃
Cheers mate!
Fuck yeah!!! Antony Green called it for Labor and WA has barely closed lmao
Check it out, following all the way from the Soup:
We begin our day cleaning cat sick out of carpet. Things can only improve from here, right?
This is a metaphor. Right.
Kids party next door. Adults talking politics and getting fairly heated. Kids playing pass the parcel and pin the tail on the donkey. Much noise. Pray for me.
When my child’s old enough to make friends, I really hope we can avoid talking politics with the friends’ parents 🤞🙏🤐
Best of luck! But I don’t like your chances.
Yeah 😮💨 … hopefully the kids party next door finished up without too much drama
Just finishing up now - the adults are settling in to watch the election results. Kids are now engulfing pizza after a long afternoon sugar high - what could possibly go wrong?
My booth had more people on the cake and sausage stalls then out the front with fliers. That’s something a lot of countries wouldn’t understand and I think it’s awesome. Democracy done. School supported and choc chip bickkies in mah tummy
I saw our Labor candidate posing for pics with a sausage in his face. If he does that at every booth today he certainly won’t need dinner.
Can’t believe it’s already been called, this is wild.
Right. 6 pm. Heeeere we gooooooo!
St Antony mathematics for us
Praise Antony Green 🙌🏼 the beautiful tone of his voice fills my living room this cold night
I’m firing up the ABC on my laptop while I’ve still got a few hours before my flight. Excited
I’m nervous.
I’m settled in with a bowl of pumpkin soup and a cheesymite scroll to await some results. 🤞
Thank god I voted early. I woke up feeling both barrels of the New Sickness one of the boys has. To top it off, he didn’t want me in the bed with him after I gave him medicine after 1am so I went and slept on the couch.
Last thing I’d want to do whilst sick and after a terrible sleep is my civic duty.
Same here, even though the line was longer than I thought I feel like complete rubbish at the moment.
I haven’t voted on election day for the last couple. And I haven’t done it in Melbourne. I’d hate to see how long it would take here when absentee voting took so long in the country.
I voted early so I wouldn’t have to wait long on the day, then I went with someone who didn’t vote early and spent over an hour in line with them anyway.
Damn, the worst of both worlds.
People here probably don’t need the warning but the Trumpet of Patriot policies are sleazily disingenuous
He is almost sounding Left wing.
As if he wants to tax his own iron ore exports 15%. He refused to even pay his workers their entitlements.
Free education from Clive?
Cutting number of immigrants is unlikely since he wants to exploit them. All right wingers after like this: They are not interested in sensible intake numbers, only in stoking racism and division.
Even the net zero thing could be naively interpreted as: “we won’t promise but we will try for net zero”.
The superannuation thing could massively be thought to imply: “we will strengthen pensions instead”.
He definitely won’t raise minimum wages or NewStart to ensure families don’t go hungry.
Anyone who doesn’t know Palmer is a piece of shit is maliciously ignorant at this point.
I hesitate to say he is full of shit because shit has more substance than the lies he has been spouting via SMS.
I think he is being as contrarian as possible to lift up his pet I dependants. His party should receive no votes, but he wants to divert those angry votes to the Independents that still take his money.
If you vote independent, (which I believe everyone should), make sure it is for someone who is honest about where their funding is coming from.
However, I’m sure that if anyone campaigned on changes to the SPAM ACT to remove political exemption, they would win by a landslide.
An email or SMS seeking to influence your vote or opinion is rarely covered by these rules – they do not need your consent to send it, and do not need to include an unsubscribe.
One friend was getting multiple spams on his phone each day from Clive (from different numbers) with no way to legally stop it.
Oh yeah don’t worry I peeped them
