I was feeling a bit antsy and there wasn’t a thread yet at 22 past midnight.

Have a great day everyone. May you and the animals of the DT who like sunbathing get some sun.

The Daily Chair. I’ve been working on the second chair and am going to put on the cover this evening. In the meantime I’m waiting for the weather to warm up a little so I can finish staining the the wood chairs. Here’s a preview of the first with just one coat of stain and varnish, the seat is removeable. I think it looks not too bad.

I scored in the 75%-100% \ 4th quartile on my CASPer (the ghost) test when I had covid which means I scored better than 75%-100% of the other test takers. The test must have been held in a cemetery for me to be able to do that well.

I’m feeling like shit on so many levels.

Homelessness, mental illness, Australia being unequal for vulnerable people

There’s an aggressive mentally ill homeless man that’s been coming around my place for ages and now he’s sleeping on a bench right outside my window.

So I get to be too scared to put my bin out and he gets to freeze because it’s not safe for me to approach or help him.

Hate the guy’s guts (he’s aggressively had a go at me before and is virulently homophobic) but I don’t want to watch him freeze or have to deal with him.

I’ve been calling the cops for months, psych triage, the local homeless services, nothing has been working.

The best I have is from today - Launch agreeing to pass a ‘sleep site’ on to their outreach team to check. But they don’t come out at night and I don’t know where this scary stranger goes in the day. He also drinks which might exclude him from dorm style shelters (which don’t apparently exist in Australia the way you think of them?) and may also not have the awareness to accept help.

It’s just one of those deteriorating revolving door situations that never ever gets solved. Australia’s systems are broken. Very surprising for a so called rich country.

Can you somehow make the bench unusable? I get that might be considered cruel but you shouldn’t be scared in your own home or to be able to step out of it.

      @melbaboutown @LowExperience2368 Huge hugs.

There were signs up around the apartment block where we live recently warning about a homeless guy who had been trespassing, and to call strata and the police if you see him.

Just from the photo, he looked creepy AF!

Apparently he spent a couple of nights in the basement carpark, and cut power to the building’s alarm system one night. (The strata managers only found out after they reviewed the CCTV footage.)

And anyone angry and drunk shouting homophobic slurs is always scary.

So I can definitely relate to how you must be feeling!

You’re doing the right thing by trying to help. But I agree it really is shameful how much our pollies have cut the social safety net these past 40-odd years (and both major parties are to blame!). It means people who need help often don’t get it.

      Take care, stay safe 💜

A pixel 6 pro phone case fits perfectly over the base plate for things like light switches.

The call nurse button here has a constant bright blue light that’s very distracting. The room is almost dark with my phone case over it

The air conditioner can make some noise but it’s pretty quiet otherwise.

And that’s also a compliment to the nurses working here and how good they are at their jobs. This place is full of kids who have trouble sleeping and I’ve hardly heard other kids crying

Tonight went well. I think we’ll be in for some better nights overall if we keep up the things we’re doing here.

But we also have 3am tonight to deal with, so we’ll see how that goes

I get you. When I’ve had to take Boyo to emergency I’ve been driven bonkers by lights and machines that go ping! And I wasn’t even the ill person. How anybody ever manages to sleep wth that much crap taped to them baffles me.

My plans for a chicken schnitzel burger were destroyed by my lack of a burger bun. I had a few long rolls so made a chicken schnitzel sub instead. It’s weird how a different shaped roll makes a completely different meal.

I’ve got a 10yo home sick too. The good part is that he’s pretty easily entertained but because he’s sick he wants Mum’s attention every 15 minutes and Mum is trying to study and get this bloody assessment done.

Fuck I would kill for a 10 year old cause you can just stick ‘em in front of a movie and buy yourself like 20 minutes to scratch yourself. Toddler can’t communicate his needs so I can’t tell if the sudden fussiness is feeling worse or actually just bored.

Lately I’ve been indulging in Bakers Delight’s custard teatimes. It’s like a pull-apart that consists of soft fluff mini bread scrolls joined together and infused with a delicious creamy custard and a delectable sticky icing and dusted with desiccated coconut topping (like a Boston bun).

Can be enjoyed anytime of the day but somehow tastes better late at night when everyone has gone to bed. Luckily I have a regular dealer who can hook me up with a discounted loaf at a moments notice (provided she’s working that day).

    Here’s what’s left of last night’s session
