From my reading of social media there are two kinds of neurodivergents: 1) hates showing, most unpleasant experience, sensory overload 2) loves showering, could live in the shower, sometimes exits the shower and realises that they forgot to wash their hair or soap up or something. Only misses their daily shower when they are very busy and can’t find an hour in their schedules.

You may be a neurotypical if you:

    • shower each day
    • complete your shower in less than 10 minutes
    • don’t forget any of the 1-3 things you are supposed to do in the shower
    • have no strong feelings about showering

This is way too general. Like I get its a joke, but I don’t think anyone showers super quickly unless they are time pressed

Sleeping in the shower! Do you then wake up when you start gurgling?

If you want a good night’s sleep in the shower then get one of those continuous water heaters, or a recirculation shower to save on the water and energy.

I’ve thought that if I were heavily renovating or building I’d want to strongly consider putting a tankless waterheater just for the shower. Main water heater does its job but can be set to a good handwashing temp but the shower never runs out of hot and is set hot enough for both myself and my wife.

It goes on at length about how the myriad filters remove everything. I hadn’t thought about that, but I don’t think it would clean the water THAT good.

Can you imagine how much pressure the shower would have to generate to get enough flow through a single or even multiple RO filters to be able to recirculate the same shower water. It’s not going to be RO, 5 micron pre-filter and some type of carbon filter. A glorified Brita shower.

I think there’s two ways to do that.

            1. A simple heat exchanger from the drain to the cold water running to the shower. A thermostat on the shower reduces the amount of hot water you use as the cold water gets warmer.
            2. Recovering water from the drain to go into the shower again, probably via reverse osmosis.

Second option requires maintenance and a bunch of engineering. Unless there’s a massive lack of water where you live and you have lots of money.

First option… Well, it requires more piping and that the drain pipe is a heat exchanging pipe - a pipe within a pipe where the cold water is in the outermost pipe, running in the opposite direction of the drain water. I’m not sure how much heat you would recover. The floor of the shower might need to be a bit higher than otherwise. And if you have hard water then I wouldn’t do it. When you heat cold, hard water the calcium carbonate precipitates and you get limescale. To avoid reducing heat exchange efficiency and avoid clogs you would have to descale regularly and it’s just not very accessible. With normal descaling you can remove a lot mechanically but here it would have to be all chemical. And how would you even get the descaler into those pipes?

Tl;dr don’t do option 1, only do option 2 if you have very soft water.

A simple heat exchanger from the drain to the cold water running to the shower.

This is very much a thing! Here’s a DOE explainer page and here’s a Home Depot listing

I think the usual way these are installed is they go in the basement with the drain portion going between the sewers and the house’s various drains and the fresh water portion going before the water heater to pre-heat the ground-temperature water before it enters the tank (although the DOE’s diagram indicates it pre-heats all fresh water entering the house, thereby also warming the cold water, which is probably great for showering, but not when getting a glass of cold water while the dishwasher or clothes washer are running)

Is there anything a person can do if they find out they or their child is neurotypical?

Oh no. We had a bidet shower (bum gun), he just wouldn’t use. He said it didn’t felt clean enough. He wasn’t a germophobe but I guess he couldn’t handle poop lol. At lease he wasn’t one of those “real men don’t clean” gang

I should have gone to the military, like I wanted to. When I finished school, I wanted to serve to learn discipline, order, and structure. My parents are both strict pacifists and had dragged me to peace protests from a young age. I didn’t want to break their heart, so an undisciplined civilian life it was. Still lacking discipline, order, and difficulty sleeping.

Army takes up to 36, and they’re decently disciplined. May have missed the boat on Marines though, and that’s where the true brainwashing occurs, in my opinion. And I don’t mean brainwashing making you want to kill and love war, I’m not fond of either, less so after than before. But structure is a very real thing, and developing good habits.

If you really want to fight someone else’s war then you can go do that now.

I shower in less than 10:

        • Heat water while I undress
        • Change water to cold, wet my hair only (dyed hair is a pain, god bless it’s short)
        • Shampoo hair, Clear, apply conditioner
        • Change water to hot again, wet rest of body
        • Stop water, apply gel in body
        • Hot water, rinse body
        • Cold water, rinse head
        • Get out.

That’s like 8 mins, maybe 9 because I spend 2 with my hair, maybe 10 because I spend 2 mins wetting my body to heat it up.

Ofc, if I’m feeling cold I end up spending way longer in the wet body phase.

I don’t know how much neurodivergence factors into it, though Im sure it does. Plenty of these sort of people think they only need to shower once every week or two because they don’t smell and usually insist they have “good hygiene” despite that. Some just straight up can’t be bothered. Both types tend to not have very many friends; who would ideally inform them that they stink.

Nah cause I’m both of those. I want nothing to do with a shower until I get in and then I’ll stay there until I run through 50 gallons of near boiling water. And then as the water starts turning cold I realize I haven’t even washed yet.

You may be a neurotypical if you:

Showering properly is one of the few things I do consistently, because if I’m not doing something outdoors like hiking or camping then my stinky bits annoy me.
