I don’t know anything about him or why he shot himself, but I remember it looked like he felt bad for scaring the the people in the room with the gun, and so quickly finished it off.

He was a politician who was caught having accepted a bribe, basically, which seems bizarrely mundane today. He said something to the effect of “Don’t look, this will affect you” before he did it, too… petty self-aware for someone who’s about to kill themselves in front of a crowd.

Edit: The wikipedia article actually has it in there.

After he had finished speaking and handing out the notes to his staffers, Dwyer grabbed a manila envelope and drew a Model 19 .357 Magnum revolver from it, causing others to panic. Dwyer backed up against the wall, holding the weapon close to his body, and said, “Please, please leave the room if this will — if this will affect you.”

          […]

Several people in the room pleaded with Dwyer to surrender the gun or tried to approach him and seize the weapon. Dwyer warned against either action, saying as his last words: “This will hurt someone”. Dwyer then killed himself with a single shot through the roof of the mouth. His death was recorded by at least five running news cameras.

The difference is that Dwyer did it on live television, in a highly publicized press statement. Cameras didn’t cut away.

Dunno. I’d be satisfied if he died on his own, forgotten, abandoned, somewhere cold and dark.

He would never do that, he’s too narcissistic. Let the copious amounts of Filet o Fish and lack of vegetables do him in. I’m sure that would be a lot more painful and miserable than an instant gunshot.

A narcissist feels that no one else should have the honor of killing them other than themselves. A true narcissist death.

Narcissists commit suicide at a much greater rate than the general population, and it’s a good thing they do. They’re saving a bit of work for the rest of society. I’d be okay with sterilisation, but I won’t complain about one less mentally ill monster on the streets.

I don’t want him to die. I want him to be convicted, to be humiliated, and to suffer in prison.

It might be fast food. It might be ending civilization in a nuclear firestorm. Guess we’re gonna find out!

This is wild to read in 2025. It sounds like the case against him was legitimate because the case wasn’t able to be repealed, but most people today would barely blink at a no-bid contract finance bribe. We’re living in a post-shame world.

And I only know about this man from the press conference/suicide sections of this article, but he seemed intelligent and empathetic. Even if he was guilty of bribery, it’s tragic that he took his life.

Pretty sure it’s the guy who offed himself on camera because of some politics stuff, I think involving a bribe
