Gonna ride to the beach and see what the ocean kicked up after all that. If I can find one shell I’ll be happy, usually it’s just rocks. My guess is that it’ll look awful after last night.

I’ve been an enthusiastic Android user for nearly 15 years now, this Google change is pretty scary.
Installing apps through FDroid is no more “sideloading” than installing a game through Steam.
What happened? They’re cracking down on non play store apk’s?
My understanding is that the author of an APK will now need to be verified through some Google service, in order to be able to sign the file and be accepted by an Android device regardless of if it came through the Play (or alt) styles, or sideloaded directly by a user.
So it’s not quite as locked down as iOS, but definitely a step in that direction (and in the wrong direction, IMO).
Wow that’s pretty extreme for android honestly.
I think they’re trying to make the play store genuine competition to the iOS ecosystem. It’s laughably easy to pirate APK’s which I would imagine would turn off a lot of developers, especially smaller ones that might just be one or two people.
That said, I’m sideloading on iOS latest firmware but it’s not as easy as googling the name of the app and putting IPA in the search thread.
That’s shitty.

Doing little bits of odd cleaning while I dabble at a latch hook rug cushion cover thing. I bought it for Miniest for Christmas but she’s not as interested in it as she is in trying to make small bears out of felt 😆 so it’s a crafternoon at the peelers!

today at the beach it was a bit wild, once the sun was out it wasn’t too cold
waves were crashing, no one else was there, no cars or fishing boats at the marina, no dog walkers, trees along the shore line were uprooted, a fence along the beach was undercut by waves and falling down
the beaches were strewn with sea lettuce, sponges of every colour and shape, so many different kinds of star fish, lots of sea urchins , blobs that I think were sea hares? Few shells
some finds, I think in a few days when the beach clears a bit I will find much more

It’s an interesting beach, it borders on a nature reserve and there are huge reefs just off shore.
I wish the shells had prettier colours but that’s not what Melbourne shells are like, they are all very muted.
that starfish in the photo would have been 40cm across with arms outstretched, it’s the biggest starfish I have ever seen
