I’m dismayed by car reviewers that cover the Tesla and make a passing comment on how they don’t support Musk.

Like James May did a Tesla review saying, “I didn’t buy it to support Elon Musk.”

That’s like being a T shirt reviewer, buying a T shirt from a Hitler Youth website, and then saying, “I don’t support Nazis. I bought this T shirt to support the garment workers and graphic artists who created the T shirt.”

RCRs did a review of a viewer’s Cybertruck. No comment on the owner or why a viewer of RCR would own one, but tried giving a neutral review. He liked the all wheel steering, but other said he never drove a car before that felt like it actively hated the driver.

I don’t know about Jame May, but I know Jeremy Clarkson is a Man Made Climate Change denier, previously being a regular Climate Change denier. I wouldn’t be surprised if May’s only issue with Musk is the EVs and bad optics. Wait, never mind. May knows when something’s up, but doesn’t have the spine to speak up.

but tried giving a neutral review.

The issue isn’t giving it a neutral review. All reviews, if they aren’t shills, give neutral reviews.

The issue is that James May bought that car with his own money. He said it’s his daily driver which is an endorsement even though he has nitpicks.

So he literally handed money to Elon Musk and then had the audacity to say he wasn’t supporting Musk.

Clarkson hasn’t been a climate change denier since 2019. But he still says individual change is useless.

Also Tesla is shit I was so surprised how bad is the experience of riding it compared to Subaru Forester 2007 for example. It is like you paid money to get humiliated

‘Frunk’ is not Tesla-specific. Many electric cars have a frunk, and the term even predates electric cars – it’s common for rear-engine gasoline cars to have a frunk.

Okay, curious though, was the word frunk a thing back when the old 1960’s VW Bug cars were a thing?

I dunno, but the word trunk predates the automobile by quite a long time, so why a special word for a front trunk vs a back trunk? Why isn’t there a special word for back trunk like brunk?

If you’re playing an RPG such as Diablo and find a treasure trunk, do you call it a treasure frunk if it’s in the front of a dungeon?

Didn’t think so. Frunk just sounds stupid.

Edit: Yeah yeah, I get that RPG’s typically call them treasure chests, but the words chest and trunk mean basically the same thing, a lockable box/storage area to store and protect your valuables/belongings.

I might be too late for this to see any traction, but I support storage in the front of a vehicle being called a chest, and storage in the back being a trunk… I think this beats frunk/trunk/brunk.

A bus or plane, where cargo is beneath the passengers and accessed from the side is clearly, then, the holster.

Canteen goes on the trunk, gun in the holster, and bandolier on the chest. Western.

Unfortunately, my usual resource for this kind of thing (google ngrams) is being foiled by the word ‘frunk’ being used in a lot of other weird contexts, even well back into the 1800’s.

          https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=the+frunk&year_start=1900&year_end=2022&corpus=en-US&smoothing=3

So I’m not exactly sure who coined the term in reference to front trunks in cars or when they did it. But it is absolutely something you’ll see in non-Tesla cars.

Don’t need to pretend, overused joke. Call me nuts, but the Cybertruck looks pretty cool to me. My only critique about it is the road safety.

My daughter loves them. There’s a pink one that we sometimes see and she goes nuts over it (and, mind, we never did the whole “pink is for girls” thing–she just LOVES pink). So I can’t outright call them ugly because I love my kid.

I’m convinced that it looks better in every color but standard. Also the front isn’t too bad. Neither is the profile. But all angles of the rear of the truck are big, boxy, just not good looking (in my opinion). But I’m willing to say that I appreciate someone being willing to produce a vehicle that maintains the concept look and actually tries to look different. There’s a lot wrong with the CyberTruck; the exterior design is probably about the least of it.

The company is owned by the same guy, regardless of which model you buy. Purchasing a tesla is a choice to further line the pockets of an already obscenely-wealthy technofascist who is actively trying to dismantle democracy and human rights around the globe.

I’ll give some people with older models a pass. Musk was less visibly a Nazi asshole back in the day. And maybe it’s just not feasible for them to buy a different car at the moment when they already have this one.

However, this pass never applies to Cybertruck owners, because Musk was already very public about it well before the first Cybertrucks were available to buy.

Musk was always a con artist and Nazi cunt.

I remember the days of being flamed questioning his ‘genius’. I don’t think people know what genius actually is.

Very much so. But in earlier times, that was less obvious and less public, so I can excuse people for not knowing about it back then.

He has been ranting on Twitter since Twitter started. People were too enamored by him and his black turtlenecks to care. How Holmes is in jail and he isn’t is a whole other documentary.

I can understand that about folks with older models, though he’s been a pos pretty publicly for around a decade at this point (I think it started when he got involved with those thai soccer team kids who were stuck in a cave and called the coach a pedophile for disagreeing with him).

That said, at least around me, the vast majority of teslas I see are models from the last couple years.

Even then, being a petty bitch and calling someone a pedophile is one thing. But doing multiple Nazi salutes on live TV is something else entirely.

I can see ignoring the former if you like the cars – if you limit your car-buying to brands whose CEO hasn’t done stupid, fucked-up shit, your list of available car brands is going to get very short very fast. But the latter? Fuck no. Not under any circumstances. If the only cars left in the world were Teslas, I’d ride a bicycle.
