It‘s okay the hackers can just say AI did it somehow and no charges will be pressed. Source: The entire AI bubble right now.

Did the hackers lower in by cable from the ceiling vent into a vault, hovering above a sensor-covered floor without setting off the alarms?

This is what happens when you gut every cybercrime watchdog.

A “friend” of mine got 200,000 NASA employees data including SSNs, pay accounts, etc. from an entirely unguarded Telnet door in 2002.

You’d be surprised how many doors there are the larger a building gets that never bothers to upgrade security until an incident happens.

Pretty sure it was very much a “We forgot we even had that door still” situation.

Dunno. Was just a big open text dataset. All with hire dates. It’s possible it was archival which explains the telnetting being so easy, but every col was filled with plenty of young DOBs.

In my friends defence, this was performed by receiving the instructions from their US friend in their IRC “hacker clan” who discovered the hack. My friend doubted it but then got in and very quickly left. Despite being performed at their university’s lab on their network, the friend still got a visit from federal officers from their country who said, quote, “You’re not in trouble, but the path you’re on leads to a bad life.”

Friend now works in cyberfraud. Whatever whitehatting for a living is called these days… The same simple slip ups, routes, and tricks leading to breaching have not changed, just the protocols in which they’re done with.

lol yikes, that’s like… really egregiously bad.

If only we had a functioning and competent government agency devoted almost entirely to InfoSec that isn’t staffed by imbecilic political hacks…

They just need to make a few more cuts to funding and budgets. That’ll fix it. … /s

So we were all worried about securing the border but uh maybe we should be doing more to secure “the most powerful military in the world”?
