When workers are paid less than a living wage and the companies in question own the politicians this shit happens
The fecal soup doesn’t help.
its whats for dinner
Bro, poultry factory floor workers make over 3x minimum wage (starting) in low cost of living areas. They even offer several thousand dollar signing bonuses.
They have to because it’s a horrible and disgusting job that no one wants to do.
The average annual pay for poultry factory floor workers is around $34,551 per year, or about $17 per hour, though this can vary by specific role, location, and company. For example, a “production worker” might earn around $12.00/hour, while a “deboner” could make approximately $17.87/hour.
Average pay breakdown
Average Annual Salary: ~$34,551
Average Hourly Wage: ~$17
Median Hourly Wage: ~$16.86
25th Percentile Hourly Wage: ~$15
75th Percentile Hourly Wage: ~$18
Factors that influence pay
Specific role: Pay varies significantly depending on the job. A sorter might make around $12.90/hour, while a lead position can earn more.
Location: Pay can be higher or lower depending on the state and city. For example, some poultry processing jobs in the Chicago, IL area have an average hourly wage of about $39, while other areas may have lower averages.
Experience and skill: More experienced workers or those with specialized skills may earn a higher wage.
paid as much as teachers who are paid less than police
minimum wage is $7.25 and 3X that is $21.75 still less than a living wage
A living wage varies significantly depending on location, family size, and number of working adults, with no single number. For example, a single adult in the District of Columbia needs about $25.98 per hour, while a two-adult family with two children in Massachusetts may need a total annual income of around $128,086. Tools like the MIT Living Wage Calculator can calculate a specific living wage based on these variables.
Examples of living wages
Single adult: Needs approximately $25 per hour in large U.S. cities, though this varies significantly by city.
Two adults with two children: Requires a total annual income of about $128,086 in Massachusetts compared to $80,766 in Mississippi, according to 2024 data.
Family of four with one working adult: The hourly living wage can be as high as $70.69 in New York, while it is $45.72 in Houston, according to the Economic Policy Institute.
How living wage is calculated
Location and family size: The primary factors are the cost of living in a specific county or city and the number of people in the household.
Number of workers: The total annual family budget is divided by the number of working adults. Hourly rate: The result is the minimum hourly wage a full-time worker must earn to cover basic needs and taxes.
Poultry plants are not typically located in major metropolitan areas. The cost of living in the rural areas they’re located in is much lower than your figures.
We have a poultry/pig processing plant in town that pays $14/hr starting. Which is less than 2 x the minimum wage. Which isn’t even remotely close to a living wage in any neighboring counties 2 deep at least. I eat at a restaurant where a guy works his second job that he needs to survive. According to him (I can’t nor do I care to confirm) he lives with his girlfriend and two roommates, the roommates also all work at the same facility and also all have 2nd jobs.
How are you still arguing? He basically obliterated you with facts. Holy crap.
He didn’t. He provided a bunch of numbers, yes, but they aren’t related.
Oh man but I love medium rare chicken it’s nice and juicy.
