Two days after the Guardian article published, the Maple Valley Township Board of Trustees held an emergency meeting, where they voted on a [freedom-of-speech] statement prepared by their attorney.

“To suggest that I must divorce my husband over political or social views is not only unreasonable, it’s insulting to the many couples who hold different perspectives yet remain committed to each other,”

Bruh??? I’m not insulted, as a vegan married to a butcher. I don’t think my sister, married to a man of a different religion, would be insulted. In fact, just about nobody I know who’s married would be offended at the idea that you should get a divorce if your spouse literally becomes a Nazi.

Yeah, I’m also sick of people pretending that a terrorist ideology is just another harmless position, as if a person is deciding between ketchup and mustard and not literally in support of gassing an entire race of people.

She’s married to a literal neo-Nazi, and is just, “Well, everyone’s got to make compromises, if you want to keep the relationship fresh, right?”

Yeah, no. If this isn’t a red line for her, then there’s something very wrong here.

I don’t understand how your spouse can become a neo nazi influencer under your nose like he’s hiding a Christmas present.

I don’t want to be uncharitable here, but if she knew and didn’t talk about it I seriously question her judgment and if she didn’t know she’s a fucking idiot, both of these feel disqualifying. The other option is she’s ok with it, she just wishes it were more private.

I’ve heard this kind of thing a lot online. Especially during covid lockdowns. A family member will spend more and more time online, but sometimes won’t openly talk about anything they’re actually up to. And when they finally do open up about it…you realize they’ve completely lost their fuckin’ mind.

In this case, though…she does seem a little too comfortable with this supposed “change”, for it to be a “surprise”.

I found those reports sus af as well. I think covid should have been a wake up call that couples don’t even communicate when they are trapped in a house together.

It’s purely anecdotal, but my relationship was healthy going into covid and covid didn’t change it, so I actually consistently communicated my interests and frustrations, as did my partner.

The idea that someone could make screaming neo nazi videos in the same vicinity as me, or that I wouldn’t ask about what my partner is spending all their time doing, that’s insane to me.

When will these dorks ever learn that freedom of speech includes saying things like “I don’t want a Nazi-fucker in government and will vote accordingly?”

    Love is love?

Jokes aside, I’m worried for her safety. There’s correlation between these views and domestic abuse…
