My point is that vim’s design makes sense if you take into account the historical context that it was developed in.

Okay, I’m going to use vim, and you get to use vim’s predecessor, ed. I’m sure you won’t mind, since vim is soooooo user-unfriendly! Right?

RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Why Everyone’s Picking Up a PSP Again in 2026English
9·6 days agoThe sheer amount of games you can run on that thing is absurd. Besides its own library, you can also run PSX games on it.
Then you get into hacking. Want to unlock it so that you can run homebrew stuff like emulators? Just copy a custom firmware (CFW) to your memory card, run it, and you’re done. If you want to lock it again, it’s just as easy. There isn’t any risk of bricking your PSP, because the CFW doesn’t make any permanent changes to your device!
So, now you can run emulators and play NES, Genesis, Gameboy, GBA, etc. There’s also a bunch of homebrew games, but they can be buggy and difficult to get running.

1·6 days agoCalling that “modding” is amusing. The PSP is so hackable, you just run an app and you’re done. No risk of bricking it, and if you want to un-mod it, it’s just as easy.

6·8 days agoOkay, don’t search for the word “binary”. Search for the word “they”.
Yes, really.
That’s all it took for people like this guy to freak out over wokeness gone amok and Mozilla is coming for your children.

9·8 days agoWhat’s the stunt? All they did was use they/them pronouns when talking about their mascot. People made the inference from there and ran with it, and y’all are too lazy to do a web search and read the announcement.

7·8 days agoIt’s a terrible PR move if you don’t say anything about it. They didn’t say “Hey, look! Our mascot is non-binary!” All they did was use they/them pronouns.

12·8 days agoWell, if I was creating a mascot, and I didn’t want to think about their gender orientation… they/them pronouns are what I would use. Mozilla actually didn’t announce the mascot’s gender. People just saw they/them pronouns and made the inference from there.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•‘God, you’re hot’ Tennessee school board member says to student during board meetingEnglish
1·11 days agoThat’s funny, because complaining about the “far left” or the “far right” sounds centrist to me. It’s like you’re saying “Oh, the people closer to the center are okay. It’s those crazy extremists I have a problem with!”
If you’re anti-left or anti-right, just own it ffs. I consider myself a leftist, so I don’t bother specifying whether something I disagree with is “far right” or not; it’s all just right-wing to me. If the people on the right want to distance themselves from the extremists on their side, that’s their business. I’m not gonna make that determination for them.
That weaselly way of talking reminds me of people like Gavin Newsom who finds ICE distasteful but supports discriminating against trans women in sports. No doubt he finds the former position “far right”, but the latter one is just common sense or some nonsense. Both of those stances are extremist!

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Appearances can be something
5·11 days agoNo, you can’t have bigotry against software. At least, not currently.
Maybe in the future somebody will figure out how to make a sapient AI, like you see in science fiction, and then you can say that somebody is bigoted against it. We don’t have sapient AI, though, so this is simply prejudice.

11·11 days agoI don’t get the hostility. It seemed like a pretty uncontroversial observation to me. Nobody complains about “the left”, they complain about “the far left”; nobody complains about “the right”, they complain about “the far right”. Anybody with two brain cells to rub together can observe this.
I have no idea why this would upset anybody, but it seems like I’ve triggered some people. Unless you’re just bots, in which case: deuces.

Weren’t people giving him commands, and he was running them without understanding what they did? Or am I thinking of somebody else?
