  • Yeah, military service used to guarantee college with the GI bill. I haven’t looked at it in a long time, but I believe it’s been cut a lot. Military was a way for many low income families (my father at the time, late 80s) to literally get on their feet, work, money, education, pension/retirement.

    Looks like it still does pay for college.

    When I was in 7th or 8th grade, I put a pair of Levi’s silver tab jeans in the shopping cart with my mom, didn’t know the price. Got up front to checkout and they were around $45. My eyes almost popped out of my head, I don’t remember spending that kind of money on clothes. Looked at my mom, she said to get them reluctantly. I felt so bad, I made those pants last for almost 10 years, all through highschool before they turned in my housework/car repair pants.

    You can still get decent levis for $50 or so, but quality has definitely gone down a bit.
