I think were getting a little to quick to the trigger in shitting on AI. I dont see any problem in what I saw watching the Ted talk. I didn’t watch every minute of it but what I saw for what the article is calling AI slop seemed like viable use of AI to create fictional creatures.

This is ILM, though, considering what they’ve accomplished in the past with hands-on tools, for the current chief creative officer to embrace AI so wholeheartedly, and for the result to just be “animal crossed with animal”, it’s pretty disappointing

Seriously the AI generated creatures were weak bullshit. Maybe they mostly looked good, but none of them evoked anything actually alien, which was the supposed point.

From the perspective of a person from this very industry - the examples are at a level of a 10-yo. And the execution is absolutely terrible, even not conisdering it’s from ILM.

Might look like any other “CGI” to people from outside the industry, but it absolutely is slop.

Well it either shows how meaningless your job is or that a 10 year old could do your job if the avg viewer thinks everything he showed looked as good as any other graphics out there. Good luck with your whole pretentious artist shtick, hope it serves you well while youre serving bud lights and mixed drinks at whatever bar you be working at after AI replaces you!

Watched the whole thing. He had some valid points, especially where full permission from the talent is concerned. The “field guide” models were pretty uninspired, but they did a good job showcasing what is possible.

I have mixed feelings. Using AI responsibly is the ideal goal, but we have seen that this is largely not going to be the case both now and moving forward.

new technology is never used responsibly

business owners only care about minimizing costs and cornering control of new tech

        history is full of examples

look at the industrial revolution, the tech will win but society isnt better in all ways

and this really isnt looking star treck so much as black mirror

It’s crazy how it sometimes feels like it’s no longer enough to simply not like something - instead, one has to make actively hating it a part of their identity. People get conditioned to be triggered by certain keywords, and it doesn’t seem to matter what is said afterward or what the nuances of the particular case are - they’ve already decided how to react.

        what nuance?

these are rich fucks shitting up another industry for profit at the cost of quality and talent

no one is mad a currently talented artists using ai to help create quality work (instead it is usually obvious slop) or people fucking around with ai personal use (instead fuckers try to pretend they ‘created’ something)

people are just tired of ai slop filling up the already dead internet with even more bot level trash
