Carrot Top is hospitalized in Las Vegas after a suicide attempt … TMZ has learned.
Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ … the comedian and longtime Las Vegas performer, who’s real name is Scott Thompson, attempted suicide on Friday in the Vegas area and was rushed to a local hospital.
CT’s rep Jami Schlicher tells TMZ … “Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs. His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”
[…] and respectfully ask for privacy.
Which we will do by blaring out the suicide attempt. Dude would probably have preferred not to have survived and had the public know.
Every podcast I heard him on, he was sharp and well-spoken. I hope he fully recovers and can find the will to carry on. He brings joy to so many.
A little over 20 years ago I won tickets to see Carrot Top from some radio call in contest. I called in on as a joke and actually ended up winning. Took my best friend with me thinking it would be lame as hell but it was actually fucking hilarious. The dude was amazing and he had the whole place roaring with laughter. Sad to hear this news. I hope he recovers and gets the help he needs.
That username though…
I remember in the 1990s that “hating Carrot Top” was a whole shtick. And it was probably his idea, too. My introduction to Carrot Top was David Letterman pretending to hate his guts and constantly blasting him with a fire extinguisher, and that Simpsons episode where he’s an evil mastermind.
It’s fuzzy now, but I saw him in I believe 1993 at coconuts. If it wasn’t coconuts it was down in the area (south of st Pete).
Hoping he finds the help he needs
Though I want to sneer and deride him (I don’t like him), mental health troubles are pretty terrible. I hope he can find the ability to love himself. I hope everyone who feels this way can come back.
Opinions on looks and acts aside, the dude is exactly what he wants to be. Thats punk as fuck. I hope whatever help he needs, he finds.
Say what you will about the silliness of his stand-up or his personal life choices, he’s put himself out there. Akin to Robin Williams, there sits a person wrestling with their own demons in the limelight. Wish him and his family well.
Williams wasn’t quite the same thing, unless carrot top is also suffering from an extremely aggressive form of dementia.
I’m not battling any demons, but I’d 100% check out if my brain started failing like that.
Sadly the funniest people almost always have severe darkness inside them as well, can’t have one without the other
Human condition, innit. A lot of utter bastards have the heart of a poet too. Each person is an infinite mystery. Tiring, really. Can’t stand people.
Matthew Perry would agree.
