Filthy Frank. He was a YouTuber who made some popular, semi-edgelord sorts of videos (and also the originator of the thankfully short lived Harlem Shake meme).

On the side, he started going into music production, and decided that the YouTube gig was starting to become too one-note and preventing him from doing as much with music, so he decided to retire the character (and sub-persona Pink Guy, pictured above) to focus on music full time.

Fans at the time were bummed because he was basically stepping away at the peak of his popularity as a YouTuber, but I think it was appropriate recognition that he had just passed that peak and there wasn’t really a way to sustain the persona long term.

It’s good that he retired Filthy Frank. It was funny at the time but I think it was the kind of edgy humour that would have very easily overstayed its welcome.

Tru but the Joji songs that came out directly after slapped so hard that I can’t say I am upset.
