Two teenagers charged with murder after the deaths of Dau Akueng and Chol Achiek refused to board the prison van to attend court.
Prosecutors had intended to make an application for compulsory DNA samples from the boys, which required them to be in the courtroom.
This headline and quote seem to be missing something. So they were charged with murder for not showing?
There are teens. They’re charged with a murder. The murder is of Melbourne boys. The teens refused to attend court.
Why did they get the option to not attend?
I’m guessing they could still be charged with contempt for not showing up. It sounds like their legal counsel told them not to go to court because the court wanted to take their dna. They will probably be fighting that first.
I went with the auto recommended title and provided part of the brief summary at the top of the article, it’s not too long a read, and the related articles should be linked on the left sidebar on the abc site.
