1·1 day agoi just logged into signal on my desktop app about 4 hours ago, and about 90 minutes after that i got a message from signal to my phone to inform me about this.
yeah i had this realization recently. went to the supermarket and bought junk food for $8, then came out and saw a person who really needed it. i didn’t even give them $1. really made me think
wtf is this post?

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•there's mostly only two relentless hardships in programming: networking issues, naming things, and off by one errors.
1·1 day agoit’s not just zero-based indexing though. i’ve had situations like these a couple of times: write a
for ... ofloop to iterate through the elements of an iterable. a lot of the times, there’s an unwanted first / last element in the list (that doesn’t actually belong there) and i forget to remove it, then end up with garbage data in the result set.

1·1 day agowell, the abstract is actually kinda a distillment of reality …
the impact velocity is so high that the kinetic energy is large enough that it instantly vaporizes the whole asteroid on impact.
tldr: it’s to have nicer, less complicated I/O operations
it enables just having two API calls: read() and write() to do everything
in fact that gets used in abstract mathematics to first introduce the natural numbers. the empty set (nothing) (which you define as 0) is not itself nothing, so you can define the set that contains just the empty set, which now is not empty itself, but contains one element, so you define that as 1 …
yeah makes sense, thanks
that is consistent with investors trading on advance knowledge of the attacks
ugh. that language does not actually say anything. the question is: is it inconsistent with investors trading without advance knowledge of the attacks? i.e. could they also have behaved that way if they had not known of the attacks

7·3 days agoplus all the data flows over their own server, therefore has 3 seconds latency, sometimes doesn’t work at all, and they retire the server after 5 years.

“hey, somebody logged into your signal account on desktop about an hour ago. might want to check that that was actually you”
