Convenience and familiarity, mostly. If you go to a McDonalds you know exactly what you’ll get and you’ll be able to get it pretty quick.
the smell of heavily chlorinated water. i used to spend a heck of a lot of time at the pool when i was a kid, and where i live now there aren’t nearly as many pools, so it’s not something encountered often anymore.
I am subscribed to over 100 channels, ranging from daily uploads to 1 video every few months. Frankly I don’t need more stuff to watch. When I do want to find something new, it’s either a recommendation from a friend, something I saw on a different social media, or something I searched for myself deliberately.
This change isn’t a good thing, it’s Google trying to pressure more people into giving up more data, but the “threat” of them removing their algorithmically recommended content from my feed is not a threat at all, it’s a bonus if anything.
Other people should post more then, to be frank.
I’ve seen this specific account around enough I recognize the name, just from how much they post all across Lemmy. Same with a few other accounts. Hell, I’m trying to prop up a community or two myself with daily posts. We all gotta try to post, as much as we can without being spam, to keep the Lemmy network alive.
For the future, !outoftheloop@lemmy.world
Now, how many of the people that helped to do this are actually willing to leave the platform?
I think stuff like this: https://lemmy.ml/post/1167199
is what’s more provably worrying. Modlogs are public, and if I’m interpreting this information correctly, I think the devs are engaging in scummy practices.
I say this on purpose to annoy my friends, especially in situations where it’s not needed
I scrambled, shredded, and then deleted my Reddit account after getting my data request back. I’m done with that place because I can only see it going downhill from here - site will only get more enshittified over time, this was the tipping point.
Genuinely, I just use the site itself either on desktop or my phone. I’ve tried Jerboa, Summit, and Thunder, and while they’re all good (Thunder was my favorite), the base webpage (with the darkly-compact theme) is more than good enough for my needs. That this is true is a great achievement on the part of the Lemmy devs, in my opinion.
Also need NFT collectable avatars, can’t forget those!
I was trying to figure this out earlier - does this work in reverse? Can I interact with mastodon posts through lemmy’s interface?
Give it time. People are obviously gonna want to talk about how bad the place they just left is in the short term; it’ll die off as time goes on, flaring up occasionally when Reddit makes another blunder.
Could be that the posts were always that bad, but now your perception is being colored by the current events. It’s certainly possible that a lot of the better contributors have left, though, or at least are less active.
This is what happens when you step on the wrong bug a couple million years ago
