Honk? Quack? Idk. I tried
Not mine, but my dad’s that I was there to witness.
It was summer (90s) and we were all camping at a lake. My sister and I were playing with some kids while my dad was chatting up the other kids’ dad. Just as I was getting out of the water I hear the other dad exclaim “you remind me of a guy I used to know called [name]!” My dad laughs and says “I am [name].” Turns out they used to go to school together decades before.
It’s stuck with me all these years, and has somewhat been turned into an inside joke within our family.
I feel called out 😅
I have had whatever number of tabs open on Firefox mobile where it stops giving you a number and you get the ∞ symbol…
I’m in this meme and I don’t like it
I miss the $50 phones …
Now it’s a payment plan for X number of months for the phone - no interest on the amount, or a free (or reduced price, I think) of the phone if you have Y plan for Z months.
My dog goes after the catnip filled toys - so all our pets go after the drugs. 🙃
Memphis design for the colors and patterns, Y2K for the colorful translucent electronics, and Frutiger Aero for the GUIs.
I just bought myself a pair of parachute pants! They’re not nearly as loud as the wind breaker suits of the 90s and early 00s, but I love them.
Where the Heart Is is the first movie I thought of
I remember us having an Atari computer along with some Compac computer running DOS in the late 80s. The computers I grew up with were models that we got for free from my dad’s workplace whenever they upgraded. We ran Win 3.1 until about '98. Win 95 was prevalent in the house until the mid '00s. Due to my dad’s job, we always had a computer of some sort in the house.
The computers in my elementary school’s computer lab were Apple 2es - in the 90s.
I didn’t get a cellphone until around 2004/2005, and then it was a hand-me-down from my older sister. The Nokia 5110 - the brick, complete with extendable antenna.
Blinkies - those small gifs that blinked to give the impression of glitter.
iframes - precursor to divs, but definitely added that “only works in IE” feel.
More contrast between font color and background image - it’s too easy to read.
12pt Times New Roman font - gotta squint to read and default font for everything
Flashy gif banner at your header and footer - bonus points if they’re the same image
All urls default to underlined blue and purple.
Mouse cursor with trails. The more sparkles, the better.
Clip art. Clip art everywhere.
My 3rd grade teacher recognized me when I was in 12th grade. It’s crazy how they remember.
Not sure if this would count, but here it is:
Boil water amount on the box in the electric kettle. Drain canned chicken. (Some brands need to be rinsed because of the amount of salt in the broth they’re canned in.) Add stuffing, butter (amount according to the box) and chicken into a bowl. Stir to incorporate. Add boiling water, stir again, and cover for 5 minutes. Fluff and serve.
I suggest using the low sodium version as there will be a lot of salt between the box of stuffing and canned chicken. Can also use leftover cooked chicken.
The Professor would be better cast as the guy Ruby Rod says is stone cold deaf, and who eventually rolls a billiards ball back to Bruce Willis’s character (I’m drawing a blank on names this morning).
If anything, Bender would make a better Ruby Rod and could cast Roberto as the flaming bad guy entity.
Hermes would make a good Zorg.
Alrighty, I’m thinking way too much into this. 😅 I’m stopping now.
So much 90s in one picture… I want my bright colored wind suit back as an adult.
Seeing a rainbow in the sky. I know it’s just sunlight refracting through the water droplets but it is so gorgeous. I still get like the dude from the double rainbow video years ago because I still feel that way.
Idk if it’s my app or what, but the link to the original post takes me to yiff… I’m using Connect on Android.
If you like DOS games, ScummVM has an android app for their emulator and then you could hit up abandonware sites for nostalgia games. Works for some Win95 games as well. Played Woodruff on my phone a few years ago, an ISO file inside ScummVM, and besides the aspect ratio being a bit off it was playable.
I tend to go back to mindless puzzle games on my phone and set weird challenges for myself. I like HexaMania and InBlock by AleksDev. I paid for no ads, iirc 99¢USD, and haven’t regretted it. No freeminum b.s. in those two. (There is a HexaMania 2 by the same person, but even with paying for no ads it has a pay to keep playing mechanic that keeps me away from it.)
Flow Free is a great connect the dot series of games that you can get the full game through Google Play Pass. Hundreds of levels per game. And with it being on GPP, you get unlimited hints if you get stuck.
If you want an exploration sandbox game, there are always Minecraft and Terraria to enjoy.
Einstein Riddle by Rottz Games, also in GPP, is a good logic puzzle game.
Yeah… It’s weird to wrap your head around. Didn’t have a special night down in the southern bible belt but they do here in the midwest.
