We had an old manual Ford Escort that we had drilled the ignition out of and put a switch in instead. No one figured it out without us telling them (friends family borrowing). Ours wasn’t even really hidden, just unexpected… thieves rarely want to spend extra time and effort on unexpecteds.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

We used to live near an intersection that, at night, the red turn arrow would just never change. There would be 0 other traffic, cycle after cycle, so… yeah. In some rare cases I’d rather safely go on red rather than wait hours for morning traffic to arrive.

2·1 month agoPhew! I hoped that had come off as snarky and fun. Hard to tell with text.
I’m fairly crafty but I may need some tips from that uncle of yours.

52·1 month agoNot where I live. All those charges for the use of their electricity here. I definitely do not have space to set up my own personal nuclear reactor on my patio. Not even sure I could scavenge enough free materials to build it, even if I found free designs/blueprints.

One complaint. Not happy they chose Andy Dick to be in it, but at least they made him the bad guy so little kids who watched could dislike him! Watched it more than once and would again.
Still my favorite ‘jacked up’/caffeinated squirrel scene, with Over the Hedge being a close 2nd.
I try to do similar for our kitchen but one of mine just lays there and takes it at the ‘line’ between rooms. He is super food oriented so he’ll put up with anything to stay in the area. BTW I also train my cats to do tricks for treats, food oriented ones are the easiest to get to cooperate with that idea.
I also like to go around and wake everyone up midday when I take lunch (I work from home). Helps make them want to sleep, at least a little, at night instead of staying up being noisy assholes.

As far as going to protests, I’ve seen those pics too and they are truly inspiring to see! I have imagined that all have a support system, though I could be wrong. I’m currently unable to stand or walk for long periods and hoping I am able to fully recover. Until then, Im in a state we moved to as adults, haven’t made any real local friends, don’t have kids or other family in the area, work different hours in a different city than my S.O. We are also in a red county in a red state that posts in our neighborhood sites freely, about being violent to any non-magas. I.e., running into the protesters with lifted trucks, doing drive-bys of their 2a rights, and get cheered on from the others on there. I had to go far from home to one of our big cities to attempt to protest for a little bit just so I could feel safer with a crowd. Luckily I am still able to drive or even that wouldn’t have been possible.
She is speaking up and bringing her expertise to those who can put the information to more strategic use. I will take all the help we can get.

9·1 year agoI mentioned this one on another post. It’s good enough I’m gonna throw it out there again. Kung Fu Mahjongg. All 3. …and Kung Fu Hustle
Edit to add, thier whole troop is amazing. Silly stories made amazingly entertaining, due to the charismatic cast and, creative and well executed choreography.

11·1 year agoTucker and Dale vs. Evil! Amazing movie! I put it on one day just so I could check it off my list of new things out and, figured if I love the Evil Dead series (and also, as someone else mentioned in the thread, the Re-Animator) how awful could this be… it wasn’t. It was fantastic.
Enjoyed Little Evil too. So, I’m putting Colossal on my list right now!

Oh my. Well since I only get on here periodically, I think YOU should get your Very Own Personal Tag!
Then, if you’re still around after I unblock you, I’ll get to see your fancy lil tag if you shownup, and remember how sensitive you got over a comic. That you coulda’ just ignored ffs.
Yeah, uh no, not unfamiliar. See the above comic. You are in it and it’s got your panties all in a twist apparently.
People who need some professional assistance will do that shit you’re talking about.
I was emoting how sick you make me feel, when one of you randomly creeps up. And especially when you think anyone cares about your weird ideals, for any gender.
“I, as a man, have never encountered this scenario myself. Therefore, it is completely made up and reason to be further misogynistic.” Is all I saw there brother.

Society as a whole reducing or no longer tipping would make a big impact. My current State requires wait staff to be paid at the same standard state minimum all other positions have to. The employer has to make up wages to at least State minimum in one’s that don’t. Which is what the majority of the kitchen and bussers make. If servers are not getting Far better than minimum (at least at the dozens of chain restaurants I’ve worked at) they quit.
Boy though, would the transition (were it to occur) suuuuck for a lot of folks. So I don’t even pretend to know the best way to start.
Should servers make more on average than cooks (who are responsiblefor both the taste and cleanliness of your food)? Probably an entirely different discussion.
Should a restaurant pay all workers a fair wage or go out of business because they rely on patrons to make up for their shiity pay hierarchy? I say yes.
I will also say, there is a difference between a chain restaurant and a local owned establishment. (Insert chain restaurant here) wants me to tip their servers 20% for a subpar service, just because it’s expected? … they can go suck socks. They can much better afford to pay each server that extra 20% than I. Aunt Margie’s diner, who always has good food and what appears to be genuinely attentive and kind staff? Absofuckinglutely.
Side note. This is also why I always bring cash for tips, that way the server can opt to disclose what they wish. A real tip, in a fair world, imho, should be just for them. No taxes, no payroll accountancy.
…that got… long. Uhhh thanks for coming to my Ted talk?
