  • I literally ragequit that captcha. Mine was showing floor plans and grainy “pictures” of a room asking me to pick which floor plan matched the picture from that perspective. I swear to you, none of them actually matched, progress reset constantly because I’d invariably pick the wrong one. It provoked such a primal rage in me, it felt like I was being gaslit into believing I was wrong when actually that captcha was cursed to hell and back. Thankfully my very patient partner managed to get through them for me and I only had to do it once to get the launcher to recognise my new pc.

As a guy who used to be on bumble (met my partner there) I will say that any conversation that started with ‘hey how’s it going’ just went nowhere 100% of the time. It’s so easy to ask literally anything else. We don’t know each other, what’s the point in asking how it’s going if all you’ll ever get as a reply is either “good, and you?” which doesn’t break any ice and introduces a lull on the conversation 4 messages into the chat or if it’s an honest “pretty shit, actually” the tone of the conversation becomes immediately weird because you don’t know each other enough to pry into that.

    Things you could ask:

    • cuddled any cats lately?
    • what made you smile today/this week?
    • what song have you played on repeat lately?
    • play any games lately? (depending on if they list games as their interest, most matches I got listed board games)

This way you’ll immediately either find common ground or find differences between your everyday experiences that you can talk about.

Off the top of my head: right click the task and hit end process. That has literally never failed me. Back in windows XP it might sometimes not actually kill the process but then there was always the “kill process tree” button to fall back on.

  • I’m fairly certain she didn’t lose the ability to laugh. I don’t think that’s entirely possible. Either you weren’t as funny as you think or she was awkward and nervous and that suppressed her real laughter. Or, hang on, there’s a third option which is she’s rotted her brain by being terminally online to the point where real experiences lose their meaning. Actually now that I think about it, that’s probably what you’re getting at here.

Fuck, wait a minute, am I losing my touch with reality and human connections?

The final frame in this comic portrays strong anger at rejection

No, it doesn’t. It shows mild anger at being insulted for no reason. Are you running on the assumption that he’s asking her out in this scenario? The only rejection he got was unsolicited. Like if I walk up to the next woman in the street, ask if she’s single and when she says “yes” I respond “nevermind, you’re not good enough”. Now she’s upset and understandably so.

I’m in full agreement with your point, but this comic is not a representation of that in any way.

  • I had the exact same infuriating experience the first half hour of using my OLED panel but it turns out it was simply because Firefox doesn’t support hdr. You have to use edge or chrome for hdr content online. So now I use edge purely for YouTube and Firefox for everything else.

  • If the place is packed it still wouldn’t change anything for the business. It’s not like OP’s spot at the table would be occupied by a random patron, it’d be an empty chair at the table that OP’s friends are sitting at. But yeah I can’t imagine being that frugal and still going to bars. I would either invite everybody to go some place free (the park when it’s nice out, my place if it’s close enough) or indeed just buy a drink every now and then.
