This is a bit of a bizarre argument (in the article), despite that I agree with the conclusion. Like she is talking about all of the ‘human connection’ she has gotten through taxi/uber drivers, and all of the examples that she gives are of people who had to turn to taxi/uber driving out of desperation because their actual career path fell out from under them. I’m sure it makes for some interesting conversations, but is that really what we should be dreaming of? Having more opportunities for people to talk to about how they’re forced to drive uber because capitalism sucks?

That’s interesting, as that would be the arrow I feel most confidently about. EA grew pretty explicitly out of Singer’s Giving Pledge and Giving What We Can book, and Will MacAskill’s (his student) networking with finance and tech bros. I just want to say that I love Devils Panties. I love that it is like half the time political and half the time not. I don’t really know why, I just like that every day you don’t know quite what to expect, but it is pretty consistently good.

I think Bibi knows that Biden isn’t going to change course before the election, so he is using this month to escalate things enough to keep them going as long as possible afterwards. In Israel, once things calm down, there will be elections, and Bibi knows he probably won’t win.

On the other hand, domestically, invading Lebanon is very popular - even most of the left wing Jewish opposition supports it. It’s crazy making, and frustrating, believe me. But if you only read the Hebrew media and aren’t a good enough English speaker to read the international news, it’s almost like you live in a different reality where all of the awfulness of Israel goes unmentioned while the awfulness of Hamas and Hezbollah gets talked about 24/7

There are many of us (I’m in Israel and involved in anti-war and anti-genocide activism). And most of us lost people on October 7th, some of whom were peace activists (look up Vivian Silver, for example). Since then we have also lost Palestinian friends and partners in activism in the ethnic cleansing campaign currently going on in Gaza.

It is true that we are a minority, but it is so hard facing discrimination from both sides - I have a pro-Palestine sticker on my computer, but it is in Hebrew. So when I’m in Israel, I get harassed about it. When I’m not in Israel, anti-semites who can’t read it assume it’s something pro-israel (or just Jewish).
