Where Moby?
Is this a suburban thing I’m too urban to understand?

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that you can post to Lemmy from Mastodon, and Mastodon users can interact in Lemmy threads. This is a Mastodon account.
8·5 天前But can you post from lemmy to Mastodon?
I’m not asking if it would make sense, I just feel left out cause of the one sided posting ability

Holy shit, I didn’t think of that angle, I think you’re probably right and that is horrifying cause I know they have no problem with letting us plebs go down with the ship and using their golden parachute.

3·6 天前That requires it to provide something other solutions can’t (or no longer do).
People need taxis, uber drove them out and then increased the price, so people used it and ended up paying a similar amount to old taxis (maybe a little more).
People don’t need AI, if chatGPT stops working, you can just use a search engine again. Sure you might not be used to it and feel dependant on the chatbot, but if it’s free compared to a big price tag, the path of least resistance would be to use the cheap solution.
The only way is that if your brain dead enough and rich enough to pay high prices, but these robber barons are ensuring people don’t have much cash.

3·6 天前While I agree with you, is there anyway to know how much an average prompt (let’s say a coding question that used to be a quick google search) costs?
I really want to ask people, would you pay X per prompt?
Cause most people “love” AI cause it costs very little

13·6 天前But critics worry that the up-front costs to develop AI have become so mammoth that the investment can possibly pay off only if AI reshapes life, work and the economy in a way that uncorks massive new profits for these technology firms.
So this is why I don’t think it would pay off:
Haven’t they already shoved AI in every aspect of our lives? I’ve literally seen tooth brushes with AI.
Putting aside how much normal people hate AI, if you already have integrated it everywhere, how can you grow further?
Seriously, we’ve already hit critical mass and now some people actively avoid it, even if you force them, how would the AI revolution look any different than what we have today?

Technology@lemmy.world•Consumer hardware is no longer a priority for manufacturersEnglish
81·8 天前Even as consumer revenue remains sizable and maintains steady year-on-year growth, it finds itself competing against segments that grow exponentially faster and earn more per unit.
So it has nothing to do with people having less money. It honestly gives me hope, things could change with a bubble burst.

Buuut, I’m noticing a pattern. If it’s a very dry country then I guess you have less chance of mud and are more likely to wear your shoes inside.

Technology@lemmy.world•The TV industry finally concedes that the future may not be in 8KEnglish
184·14 天前Right? I really don’t get it.
It’s the law of diminishing returns. When we went from 480p to 720p, it was a huge jump, something everyone noticed.
But the jump to 1080p was much less noticeable, to the point that people just thought its no different than 720p.
Now we have 4K, and most people stream, so it’s a bad bitrate ensuring it doesn’t look good all so the consumer feels like they are getting more cause 4K sounds cool.
I’m sooo glad 8K is not becoming a thing.
I don’t find this hard to believe at all.
Tried to play halo 3 campaign for the first time a little while back.
It really felt aged, like an upgraded ps2 game essentially.
And this was the pc version mind you.
