  • I think Ricky has a problem in that some people go to his shows expecting a sterility of humor you find on tv and get proper standup. You almost never hear outrage about Jeselnik because his entire repertoire is “I’m saying the wildest shit I can think of and thats what you’re here for”

I have mixed feelings about Dave Chappelle because I genuinely believe in inclusivity which unfortunately includes having jokes made about you (which some communities do not appreciate) but he just did too much and it crossed a line into feeling like bullying behavior so I dont fuck with him at all anymore.

  • But thats just it and what most professional comedians are talking about. They dont want you to be genuinely offended or upset, but if you go to a comedy show or watch a 60 minute special. You laugh at 55 minutes but get offended at the 5 that are about a topic YOU are sensitive about, that 5 minutes wasnt all of a sudden serious statements meant to be taken seriously. It was all jokes. They dont owe anyone an apology because that person didnt like parts of their work. They KNOW that not everything is going to land for everyone. If 90% of the audience are laughing, you are killing it.

  • This is standard corporate tomfuckery.

You fire them first (probably illegally) wait for them to lawyer up and come after you in court, enter into negotiations to settle now that the employee is under financial pressure to accept.

An employee who suffers a serious injury on the job who might have ongoing life long medical expenses can be horrifically expensive to a company often wildly exceeding a negotiated settlement.

Its morally fucked but the company would rather cut the man a very large cheque and sever all ties than have the long term liability hanging over their heads. Sacking him first just puts a timer on it that the company can afford to wait out when the employee cant.

    Yes, its still wrong.

  • Or at least go full fucking Orwell with it and let me see the benefits.

Every fucking night someones shithead kids are out breaking into and stealing cars in my neighbourhood and every fucking day I have to dodge unregistered dirt bikes and unrestricted E-bikes on the roads just trying to go to work and do groceries like a regular boring asshole who has to obey all the fucking rules because if I beat the fuck out of the cunt in my driveway trying to get into my car and possibly steal it I’ll catch charges and if I dont pay all the registration costs, insurances and drive exactly as I’m told the government will destroy my livelihood.

Do something about the brainless fucks that cant live in a society FIRST and maybe I’ll complain less about the surveillance state.

  • Its like when I talk about cars.

I dont speak in make and model, I speak in chassis and engine codes. Replacing an engine is a 1 weekend job that I could do half drunk back when I was drinking. Unless you’re swapping the engine for something not meant for that car I would describe that job as big but easy.

And then I remember a lot of people know make and model and thats it.

  • I think you have what I mean twisted. What life is like for people stuck in the poverty or trailer park cycle is not a universal experience and for all the people that do get it or do empathise and have an understanding that “this is a window into a world I’m not from presented in a humorous way” theres someone sitting there laughing thinking that the whole thing is a wild exaggeration, laughing at the idea that people are really like that or using it to confirm their own biases “the parts that confirm my biases are facts and the parts that dont are just entertainment”

Me hating the show isnt a commentary on its quality, the creators and cast should be very proud of it. I just cant stand to sit and watch it because some of it is too real to be funny as someone who also came up really fucking poor.

  • I will always defend BBT as 6 seasons of a great show dragged out and dumbed down for prime time. I think if someone went through it and discarded the filler jokes, arcs that go nowhere and excessive laugh track it could have been really good.

My wife likes the show as background noise and I’ve studied it. Theres some real relationship writing and some genuinely good character growth, some of the non “Ha! Nerds!” Jokes are actually pretty funny.

As a grown man the subject of getting smacked with a thong/flip flop came up and well… we tested it. Grown men spanking each others bare arses with a flip flop. We all agreed that while the activity was slightly gay, it was also hilarious and incredibly painful.

In short, it sucks as much as it did when you were a kid.
