      These chilli oils are generally designed to be tasty but not necessarily very hot. I used to eat lao gan ma out of the jar and this stuff is probably not as spicy (this brand appears to be marketed at westeners).

      I did get one made locally brand at some Asian shop a couple years ago that was definitely on the much hotter side. Wish I remembered the name. Took me over a year to finish it. Strong onion presence which I love

        Unfortunately the 2 Lt grim reaper paste is unavailable so he’s been trialing all these other sauces and oils for just a hint of heat and has not succeeded. He’s buying bird’s eyes like you wouldn’t believe. I’m living with a chilli addict.

      I make my own batches of chilli oil, it’s really easy but as said not super hot. More chilli with subtle chai spices.
