He definitely deserves it and probably much more if innocent. The problem is taxpayers are footing the bill. It should come from the people responsible. Cops, lawyers, judges, etc are the ones who failed and should be responsible.
I have a hard time imagining a scenario where the people responsible for ruining someone’s live with a false conviction have the money to pay for reasonable compensation. Cops and prosecutors shouldn’t be multimillionaires.
That’s why they should be required to have practice insurance and independent licensing boards.
Just like how a doctor needs malpractice insurance and to maintain their medical license, judges and cops should too.
