I prefer to believe she found the Kubrick 2001 trip-out scene up there, and now lives forever as a magic star puppy.

It was only low earth orbit. It reentered Earth’s atmosphere in April of '58.
So in the end I guess Laika did make it back to earth.
She didn’t even make it to space. Or survive the ignition sequence.
