The trial in Ballarat went well, so they’ll be rolling it out to the rest of Vic soon. Only full licenses for the moment, but it says L and P platers will be able to get it later this year too!

One thing I noted: if you’re required to always have your license on you for any of these reasons, you probably won’t benefit that much from it. Not having any reception or running out of battery won’t be an excuse, so you’ll cop the fine regardless.

If it’s like NSW, you don’t have to physically give them your phone, it shows all the information and it has a QR code they can just scan to bring up stuff on their system

I hope they roll this out to the proof of age cards too! I’m happy to carry my physical card when I know I’ll need it, but sometimes I’m not expecting to need it and I just need to check the expiry or permit number for some quick process and it’s a PITA.

Too many things, from physical controls to licenses are “going digital”. If a person doesn’t have the presence of mind to carry their physical license with them when they get in their car, the they’re not switched on enough to be driving.

An undisciplined, forgetful, or unaware mind, is a hazard on the roads.
