Trump told Republicans not to “waste” their time on extending the enhanced ACA subsidies set to expire, saying he’d only support “sending the money directly back to the people.”
Republicans are careening to a health care cliff with no solution in hand. An estimated 22 million people in the U.S. are about to see their health insurance premiums soar by, in some cases, thousands of dollars per month, as billions in funding for the Affordable Care Act expires on Dec. 31. The expiring funds, costing about $35 billion per year, were first passed during the pandemic to subsidize insurance payments, capping premiums for a “benchmark” ACA, or “Obamacare,” plan to 8.5% of income.

Americans clearly need to touch the stove and get burned before they understand what they’ve unleashed. It’s regrettable but saving them from the consequences of their political decisions might be worse in the long term. We’re at this horrendous point where things will have to get worse before they have a chance of getting better.
I’m actually of the opinion that Americans are stupidly selfish because they’ve never had to go through the unifying thread of war and mass destruction on their country. They’ve never endured a community/county level hardship. The Pandemic was close but even then it wasn’t the visceral, visible destruction.
The cold war? Cuban missile crisis? “Duck and cover?”
And what came of any of that?
The (wrong) lesson that much of the US took away from the cold war is that we’re basically untouchable. For all the fear of nuclear war, it never happened, and we came out on top. We never had war on our country, or even on our borders, and probably the tensest moment of the whole cold war, the Cuban missile crisis, we were able to diffuse peacefully and in a way that from many angles made Khrushchev look weak and like we came out on top.
also the protests have largely died down in thier messaging, and were not very effective to be honest, since republicans dont protests it only is for democratic voting to reaffirm whats wrong.
