I’m German and when I was in elementary school in the 90s we learned about the Nazi regime. An old woman visited our class to talk about what is was like for her as a child under Hitler.
I remember that she said some people just disappeared and noone really knew why. There were rumours about prisons or labor camps but noone knew for sure what happened to the people who disappeared. She only learned about the concentration camps after the war was over.
I bet in a decade or so we will learn about all the horrors that are really going on right now.
