I’m trying to remember my old school DS and Wii days. I remember both having a web browser and both being particularly bad at playing most videos. What Nintendo consoles have had a dedicated YouTube app? Have any had a streaming app?
I know Xbox and Playstation both tried to turn your console into a home entertainment system, I always assumed Nintendo was consciously not doing that to their consoles
I used the Netflix app on the Wii! The interface was clunky because you had to use the pointer to type into the search bar, and iirc they didn’t have the entire Netflix catalogue available, but it DID work.
I don’t think my family had Netflix when we had my Wii so that tracks that I don’t remember it. Couldn’t the Wii only output 480p? I bet that was a bad viewing experience
Yeah, 480p, we had a small TV and didn’t need more than that at the time. That was back when the standard HD was 720p and the absolute peak was 1080p. We had a combo DVD/VHS player that probably only output 480p as well. The viewing experience was fine for the time
I wonder if we will stick to only YouTube this time around too, or other streaming apps like Netflix, Prime etc. will also be released.
