The National Guard’s mostly quiet walks through Washington, D.C., are expected to cost a little more than $200 million, USA Today reported, and that’s the figure just for the D.C. National Guard, not for the eight states that have sent troops. Those likely more than double that cost, because out-of-state troops make up a majority of the D.C. deployment. According to the California National Guard, the deployment to Los Angeles cost another $118 million as of early September, a number that continues to grow as 100 troops remain in the city, long after the precipitating unrest has died down.

Military. The only thing the government spends any money on anymore, it seems. Well, apart from themselves.

There are no more art museums to guard
The lab is out of white lab coats
Cause there are no more slides and microscopes
But there are still careers in combat, my son

There are no more roles on TV shows
There are no road-cone dispensing jobs
There are no spots left for park ranger
Cause there are no bears left to save you from
But there are still careers in combat, my son

With a bit of well-placed (expensive) sabotage, the entire US economy can be destroyed.

Well, thank goodness that we have money to conduct war on our own citizens. I’m sure everyone is happy to give up their health care so that the National Guard can help the ICEstapo play “Where’s Waldo?” looking for “antifa” and tackling very dangerous gardeners/nannies/cooks.

And the government is not open and they’re not getting paid :) these are regular people working regular jobs in our society who got told, get fucked, you’re going to [place] but you aren’t getting paid for your pointless deployment at the behest of a wannabe tyrant, hope you have savings :)))))))

      You forget:

They also chose to obey that order and oppress others on behalf of a rapist.

Oh, sorry. I forget that only protesters and brown people need to consider risking their safety and stability to live under fascism. The arms of the fascists can’t be expected to give up a second paycheck or risk getting kicked out of the military that is increasingly just guns hired by pedophiles.

I don’t think Trump is doing this so the Holiday Inn or whatever the guard is staying at can make bank on the government rate room booking.

If this was about handouts to his cronies it would be Blackwater in the streets, not national guard. This is just Trump being an authoritarian fuckwad.

Sure those costs are way down. Government shutdown, no military pay? Just paying for the gas and meal rations now.

Not only that, but these guys have day jobs that are having to deal with the lost labor. Economically, this compounds pain all over the country.

It’s almost like they’re serial liars who only care about wasteful spending when it’s convenient.
