      In the age of ‘loyalty tests’ this really isn’t new. On top of that military personnel have always had their speech restricted. But, as long as they weren’t bad mouthing their leaders or discussing unprofessional topics at work it was generally fine.

      This is a step MUCH further than that, sure, especially for a political activist civilian… still just a loyalty test, though. Just like when they replaced all the senior leaders that didn’t hold their values.

        Please excuse my ignorance. Did the third reich ever pretend to believe in free speech? I thought suppression was, well, the whole precursor to the holocaust?

          Yes, and they still do. Trump has Truth Social, Musk bought Twitter as a “free speech absolutist”. But it’s a lie, as we see here.
