The appeal about Character.AI is that their proprietary language models are actually quite good. I have no idea how they manage to get the funds to handle the servers needed to give good output at a quite good speed, when I am sure nobody is buying the premium membership.

But they did just update their privacy policy to now explicitly say they are giving your data to third parties for targeted advertisement. (and arbitration)
