This is good actually. The current standards assume that exposure to ionizing radiation is always bad no matter how small. The evidence suggests that small doses are absolutely safe, and arguably beneficial.

Panicking about small radiation doses has absolutely caused public harm and even death. Many people argue that some of the evacuations around Fukushima were overly conservative and ultimately more harmful than doing nothing.

My mother, who used Office software her whole working life recently asked me, un-prompted to help her switch to something else. She was tired of the always online, always signed in obnoxiousness of Office 365. She was tired of looking for stuff in Onedrive. And the software had changed so much over the years, that she figured learning a new office suite wouldn’t be any extra effort.

Europeans should be self aware enough to recognize that the most devastating criticism of Trump are direct comparisons to historic European tyrants. And forget about Hitler or Mussolini. Donald Trump at his worst can’t even measure up to Leopold II.

Curious to see how it works out when the AI companies need to grow exponentially to be profitable while their biggest customers are cutting back.

I can’t wait to see the launch of the next generation of consoles. Valve has been absolutely battered by being the first out the gate in this hardware market, and I’d be surprised if the next gen consoles are not anemic and expensive.

Water consumption has been way overblown. Sure if you’re in the Colorado River basin, water is absolutely an issue. But if your concerned with wasted water usage, all data centers combined would be a rounding error compared to what we throw away on turf grass.

I read that if the AMOC fails, Western Europe will be like central Siberia. That is to say -30 in the winter, and 40 in the summer.

Windows11 sucks so bad. I was so excited to learn that Explorer and Notepad were getting tabs & Paint was getting layers. Only to find out that these core features weren’t being updated for users, but in the process of adding slop to the OS. Explorer was the worst, my address bar became an ad. And everything was buggy and broken.

One positive of AI is that the ownership class is getting a lesson in just how complex, flexible, reliable, and capable “unskilled” workers are. You can watch them realize in real time that a model capable of running a dinner-rush drive-thru would be a trillion dollar quantum leap.

The no1 reason to self-build is to save money. Obviously, this thing isn’t going to appeal to that crowd. For a pre-built, this price isn’t crazy. And the performance is fine for 1080p/1440p gaming.

So if you’re the kind of person who knows the GPU nomenclature by heart, you probably won’t buy this, but I still expect the thing to sell-out by virtue of being Valve.

I’m rooting for Valve’s success because that means wider Linux adoption.
