As I understand it, they’re joining precisely because they’d gain little. By flooding it with their content, any new user would think Fediverse=Threads.

I’ve seen the acronym EEE (Embrace, Expand, Extinguish) thrown a lot in these discussions because it’s a 3-word summary of their presumed strategy.

Although as others have mentioned, I don’t wanna sound creepy; for strangers it’s generally about a cool accessory they’re wearing. i verbalize the compliment by refering to their uniqueness, not intending to start a conversation just, “cool hat 👍”

I’ve been using for at least two years without knowing it was Open Source. Good! I have no idea how to self-host, though. Must take a look into the documentation.
