If no password is needed to do authentication, then any script and any user is able to do whatever they want on your system. Basically every script and application has root access by default. That is something you do not want to have. Even more important in multiuser environments.
Makes sense. But they change “just” the default settings, right? I would like to take over my existing profile if it works. To me it does not defeat the purpose, because I did a lot of custom tweaking to make it more private too. So from that perspective I am happy and that is not the reason why I change. I change because I’m fed up with the Ai integration of Firefox.
Edit: But maybe its also time for a fresh start from scratch. And rethink every detail again. I am very hesitant to make the switch right now… but it has to be done.
Then Mozilla should start listening to their users instead of driving them away.
I think the hope is to get more people in than losing them. But with Ai nobody will stay forever, because the time someone else makes a better Ai tool, they switch. Because Mozilla loses personality and uniqueness and start getting replaceable. … just like employees who are forced to use Ai instead their own work and knowledge.
My two biggest issues with a fork are: a) timely updates, they take a bit longer than the main version, and b) trust issues, I don’t trust most forks.
That bit was odd for me too. I think the author means “nobody” based on the online reactions and discussions about Firefox. And you shouldn’t take the term/word too literal. So I can understand the view at least, because that is what I am getting too. The problem is, that mostly negative opinions are discussed. And mostly from tech people, which I personally assume most Firefox users might be.
Can I just take my Firefox Profile directory, and copy it over to LibreWolf? Does anybody know?
Hmm. I actually don’t know why I don’t get the “Profiles” menu, when clicking the “Account” icon as described in the link. Is it the icon that I can add by “Customize Toolbar”?
Looks like one of the better tutorial / documentation series in a blog I have seen a while for Bash. Most are short and shallow. I think this is NOT an Ai slop. I won’t read it, because I know most of the basic stuff and some advanced stuff too. But from quick look I could recommend this. Well done.

Yeah, its surprising. But kinda makes sense if you think about it. If you have profiles and sync, why would you?

You could always use profiles, its not really new. But it required you to run Firefox with commandline options. Whats new is just an integrated graphical user interface to select and manage profiles.

For some reason, clicking the account icon does not have the “Profile” submenu for me. And I am on the newest Firefox. Do you have the menu?
Right, I completely forgot about “Super”. It might even be the more common term.
The “Windows” key is just called “Meta” (Edit: or more commonly “Super”) key in Linux. It’s used for hotkeys, especially stuff that has to do with window management. I also set a simple press on it without other keys, which would open up “krunner” (to search or run apps).
!(r.SendNow || r.DryRun) requires you to read the entire statement and then negate the result. While !r.SendNow && !r.DryRun each part of the statement stands on its own and is negated for themselves. That is how I read. I like the Ai suggestion more, because that is how I would write it myself. What I like about it is, that the negation of is right there with the variable. It gets more important, the more you divide sub-expressions in multiple lines.
Well, you don’t have to use them. So they can’t force you to use Ai features.
I’ve used a few in the back and my actual favorite was Surfingkeys. But regarding that, there was some controversies, so I stopped using it. And recently installed Vimium-C too, because the original was no longer developed. But it’s not only that, because this fork has features the original does not have and was forked in 2014. Meaning it diverged from original since 11 years.
Only if you are dependent on Ai, because you cannot program yourself or don’t want to.
