32·1 day agoSame, it is infuriating. Neoliberals are insufferable ideological cowards who will ALWAYS backstab you rather than challenge the status quo. It is so obviously apparent this is 1000% who Gavin Newsom is it hurts to even think about.
Conservatives aren’t wrong when they shit on how dumb California is as a national punching bag, they are just even dumber and more deeply married to their cult-like beliefs than Californians could ever be, even in the worst caricature of Californians possible.
California really does seem to still believe in the progressive potential of Sillicon Valley, especially when it is violently ripped from tech workers hands and given to techbro billionaires to blindly destroy, and it makes me want to vomit just thinking about how self defeating and smarmy of an ideology that is to hold in 2026.
Gavin Newsom perfectly encapsulates this emptiness inherent to Californian culture.

The skiiers keep telling me it is a great year, one of the greatest ever. Let me tell you, I don’t skii I don’t know how to do it, I am lazy piece of shit president and you can’t cheat at skiing like you can at golf so what is the point, no gain for all pain just like my kids hahaha, but damn well you would be surprised how many people come up to me and say mr president I just want to say thank you for this amazing skii year, my family has had such a great time and it is all thanks to your administration cutting redtape so we can get snow our on mountains -pause- isn’t it nice when young girls come up to you and talk to you? we should get them more snow using I don’t know I think we should try using jet engines for snowmakers maybe we should look into that you know those skii mountains are great for fundraising events I have sold a lot of shoes there and there are lots of highheels on young wealthy women there too, not as wealthy as me, but you know surprisingly wealthy for girls, not anything like how nice my old friend Jeff used to get them done up nice in jewels with though… Anyways, where was I, yes… -sways to the music silently for a moment- ah there I was at the joke part of my rambling stupid drivel that comes right after my joke reference to sexual assault of minors and sex trafficking, Who would have thought you sell the most shoes at a skii mountain which you don’t need shoes for!! It is a mystery like why I am supposedly attracted to women but also I hate them and treat them like trash, I should ask JD if that makes me gay JUST KIDDING.

35·4 days agoPart of the reason you organize is so you don’t become complicit in authoritarian violence enacted by your workplace and find out only too late you are powerless to stop it alone without a union.

17·6 days agoI think most people agree but when we slip into trashing social media as a concept and lose the nuance I get concerned.
Social media is a terrible for us. Me included. It’s addictive - that’s why I’m here.
If that is how you feel I encourage you to start from a position of curiosity about what draws you here beyond a simple thought terminating comparison to an addictive physical substance or our sex drive.
If you think we have 40 years before general collapse you are in for an enormous amount of unprocessed heartbreak.
I think they have no problem with regulatory capture being added to cement their dominance under the guise of protecting kids…
