That’s a good way of putting it. Honestly, Christianity is incompatible with the “family / country” part. Christians are supposed to sell everything they own and help the poor, not hoard it for their own. And “country?” Jesus couldn’t give a shit for countries.
For a long time he topped my list of people I’d love to get rid of. Just not because of his addiction.
Yes and God will help! The second they get into mixed territory like that, they run to religion for help. “Love the sinner” blah blah. Just don’t ask them to be a good Christian to immigrants and prisoners, like Christ said to.
Oversimplified foolishness isn’t really what I’d call a core conservative value. It’s more just the way they roll. They roll based on their gut feelings 99.9% of the time.
“Some people are just bad” is a core conservative belief. They don’t believe in harm reduction for drug addicts. In fact they want the harm to happen, and ideally for it to be fatal. Because these people are bad, so let’s get rid of them.
They have the same mentality about criminal justice. Some people are just bad - criminals. Give them the death penalty. They don’t want to talk about rehabilitation or small improvements to the recidivism rate. Some people are just bad, they think, so lock em up and throw away the key.
Of course, most conservatives have either done drugs or committed a crime, but the whole “some people are just bad” concept never applies to themselves in their own minds. Because some people are just good too, and doing bad things doesn’t change that.
So, conveniently, they themselves can get away with any kind of wrongdoing, forever. But a single transgression by another person is a good justification to simply end their fucking life.
It’s such hypocritical, violent, hateful mentality. Humans have succeeded as a species by coming together and looking after one another. This mentality is positively inhuman.
I seriously believe that in an adult society you can set one or two historically damaging things aside from “freedom of speech.” I believe it was Trevor Noah who explained that when black people took back South Africa from its apartheid masters, they didn’t burn those people at the stake or prosecute them out of existence or even steal all their property. They just said you won’t be ruling this country like that anymore OH and that ONE WORD… you don’t get to say that ONE WORD ever again.
I think she’s amazing and wish her nothing but luck.
I know that if she is spending money this way, she’s doing it on the up-and-up with only the right intentions.
But I can’t get over thinking that political campaigns doing charity work starts to resemble “a chicken in every pot” vote-buying. I would love it if someone who knows campaign finance law better than me could comment on the legality of it.
Imagine if now, at the height of their success, Apple finally decided, for the first time, to alienate the core audience they’ve always shown undying dedication to: gamers /s
They probably don’t believe you because most of the time a 20% growth rate doesn’t just stay constant for a decade, allowing for such simplistic extrapolations. There are examples to the contrary. But a 20% growth rate means 750% growth over 10 years and that is a lot.
No one will like hearing this answer but they may already understand the issue of it being bad data and have a good reason not to care.
Here’s the thing. When “none” or “skip” is there, people gravitate toward it. You end up getting 75% of people saying “none” for every question, and then your entire survey is meaningless. I hate surveys too. Everyone hates them. All the more reason to just mash “skip” or “none.” Because fuck you and fuck your survey.
Meanwhile, what % of people don’t touch any of these social networks? Maybe we can’t say for sure, but it’s way less than 75%.
So you’re choosing between two possible sources of bad data, and choosing the one you know to be of lower magnitude.
You’re right. I was thinking about private citizens but that’s not the situation on this one.
It’s very valuable for research purposes too.
I get where you’re coming from but leaking a list of names and how they voted is a terrible thought.
Everyone cashed out on Skype the day it was sold to eBay. Years later people are still wondering what happened to it?? The train left the station forever ago.
What a brave, original thought. Did an AI write this for you?
I recall all the same arguments about how much energy and carbon are involved in performing one Google search. Does anyone care? Nope.
I’ve always ignored the energy issue on the assumption that it will be optimized away. Right now, leapfrogging the competition to new levels of functionality is what’s important. But when (if?) these tools settle into true mass usage, the eggheads will have every incentive to focus on optimization to save on operating costs. When that finally starts happening, we will know that AI has passed out of its era as a speculative bet and into prime time as an actual product.
Oh yeah wow I hadn’t noticed the community this was posted under. Totally inappropriate. Wake up, mods.
What’s wrong with Zuck’s family?
I know right? First it’s “the collapse has already begun” and then it’s “starting to collapse” and then it’s “collapse is imminent” and then it’s “colllapse is guaranteed” and then it’s “on the road to collapse” and now it’s “growth has slowed.”
Jesus fucking Christ call me when Putin is dead.
