You may want to consider the toilet roll system I use. It’s not for thick cables but works well for USB cables. You just shove them in the toilet paper rolls with the connectors on top and then you can see what kind of cables they are, no need for tying or labeling.

I’ve done both. But I’ve also seen a few people get addicted to coke and it’s not a great thing.
