Now that’s just wasteful.
You must not waste the batteries in scooters, the gold in flock cameras or the ram in data centers. I believe Jesus said this. Now pray with me

2·1 month agoIt’s their main marketing thing.
But they have just become another reselling platform for dropshippers, selling the same plastic garbage you find for cents on AliExpress. Tolerated because selling it simulates growth. Their main competitor, as communicated internally, is Amazon. Those who pushed for cleaning up the site to focus on re-use were sacked.
Doesn’t mean you can still find good stuff there, but local classifieds are still the better choice.

News@lemmy.world•US national debt is now bigger than the economy for first time since World War II
21·1 month agoIt’s worth a try. We can’t afford any such accumulation of wealth and the power and influence that comes with it. Assets can go into the public hand, I don’t mind if that is managed by democratically elected representatives that are not corrupted like the majority in government now.

11·1 month agoIt’s time to cut billionaires and corrupt politicians in half.
But yes, the USD is loosing power and the strategy of printing more to cover their debt while the world is selling off their stockpile will quickly make inflation go brrrrrrrrr. So much winning

Technology@lemmy.world•Age checks could turn internet into an ID checkpoint and would kill anonymity, Proton CEO saysEnglish
3·1 month agoThanks for sharing, I don’t think this is much more. Corporate Dems are an issue and I wish I was in the timeline where Bernie became president. Saying Republicans are better (in 2025) is either extremely naive or insane. Either way, it does not give me the faith I would like to stay with Proton long term. Posting official stuff, pulling it back, now claiming neutrality… confidence is eroded enough.
I have the Duo plan until mid next year and see it as my inbetween from iCloud to self hosting most of my services. Currently trialing Mullvad for the VPN and it can keep up with Proton easily.

Self-hosting@slrpnk.net•Do I belong in tech anymore? - On quitting, the spread of AI, and the loss of an ideal.
38·1 month agoOh I’ve been on a similar journey, after a year long break I’m back in the education space and things have only gotten worse.
I voiced concern about professors using LLMs to create presentations. The sloppy images with nonsense text are one thing, but it’s hallucinating on actual content. Since I’m learning, I can’t be certain if something on this topic is true or an hallucination. My criticism was understood as me just not being tech savvy enough for AI.
I’ll probably drop the course and get my money back, I could get a chatgpt subscription for a lot less…
I’ve beefed up my legal insurance because I believe the only way to hammer some sense into people and businesses is to sue when their agentic ai makes mistakes. Currently nobody seems accountable for the output and that has to change.
